Default painting over chips on a cot

We bought a cot off ebay and it has a few chips in the paint that have been sanded down (including a deep bite mark!!!! Babies do that?!) What are the safety issues in painting over the chips again. would it be toxic for the baby if she chews on it?

do you know how old the cot is? some paints used to contain lead. i would say if you dotn know how old the cot is just strip all the paint off and re-paint the whole thing.
