    Default Help with bottle feeding

    Hi all

I have bottlefed (formula) my baby since she was 3 weeks old. She is now 9 weeks.

I have been using the avent bottles and teats and all has been fine til recently when we have been having problems with feeding her.

She has starting jerking around on the bottle now and starts to scream and cry hysterically just after its put in her mouth. She then will calm down with our help and wants to then take the bottle again like she is ravished but starts to carry on again.

We have slowly illiminated such things as making sure the formula is at the right tempurature and changing the teat flow etc as well as sitting her upright etc etc.

I have a dr appt this afternoon to discuss the possibility of maybe this silent reflux that a few people on here have talked about.
I called the child health line yesterday when i was stressed out of my brain and she suggested changing the bottle all together and the teat. I had some novelty character bottles (no brand) which I made up yesterday and so far she has been somewhat calmer with this. i have also taken to not holding her whilst feeding her either but just propping her up on a pillow on the lounge. This seem to work for two feeds yesterday. I also fed her on her fav place (the changetable) yesterday which she seemed quite content with that too. She seems to not want to be held when the bottle arrives or something I think.

Any ideas on what this could be or other things I can do or try ?????????
I have also illiminated wind probs too as she poos twice a day and burps and farts a substantial amount !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Default formula??

try the other variables like the brand of formula?? maybe allergic to cows milk? there are soy and goats milk alternatives

also you mentioned the speed of flow, i know avent progress quite rapidly thorugh speed of flow, like going from 1 to 2 holes when they hit 1 month, my CHN said this was too fats for bottle fed bub. Basically she said it should talk them 15 mins to feed so if they are feeding too quickly it might flowing too quickly.

    hope that helps
    peace

Sometimes if she is just going' psycho' as i like to call it i just put the dummy in her mouth for a bit as she might not be hungry but just wanting something to suck...(very common with colic) i do this alot when she has her colicky periods and she looks starving when i put the dummy in. She grabs at it and furiously sucks!
THIS IS My Brooke as well.

I'm using Avent teats # 1 and bottles .. I have found Brooke really likes this .. i DO burp her soon as I here her getting crackly while drinking .. and she burps pretty much instantly.

So soon as you here her getting crackly the wind is building .. prop her up and burp and then back to bottle, that works for me ..

    good luck.

I agree with Our Angel is Pink, scarlett was like that even while on the breast, when i had to put her on the bottle she got a little worse i think it was the dfference between the two. As soon as i proped her up gave her a couple of taps on the back big amounts of air would come up. Worth a try

    Default different bottles

I was having the same troubles trying to teach my little girl to drink from the bottle. She just didn't know how to let the air back in and the teat would get sqaushed flat. I was using Avent but after trying all sorts of nipples and expensive teats the NUK ones with the air vent to let air in is fantastic. She stays on the bottle without pulling off and gasping/ fussing. My husband was wriggling the old bottles around to break suction and let air in when she started to fuss, but then I was up all night as she had bad wind and needed to fart as she had obviously swallowed too much air with her feed. Go the NUK.!! expensive but worth it. we have had no problems for the last month.
    treasure every moment
