    Default Milestones for a 5 month-old.

I'm just interested in talking to anyone else who has a baby aroung 5 or 6 months (or remembers their baby at that age). My DD is 5.5 months (corrected age is just over 3 months because she was early.)
She has to go to physio and her physiotherapist keeps telling me how she should be rolling, and doing tummy time for 45 mins every day! She does about 5 mins a day because she hates it and just screams.
Did your baby do tummy time for that long? And when did they start rolling?
I don't think she is behind because she can sit up and do other things, but the physiotherapist is worried she might not crawl and just slide on her bum (which apparently is bad for hand-eye co-ordination.)

    Thanks.

i wouldnt listen to anyone that says a baby "should" be doing things by a certain age! baays do stuff when they wanna do it!

i took Brodie to a physio once and she was lovely! she told me tummy time for 30 mins was enough for a 5 month old, so we have 3, 10 minute sessions. Brodie screamed at first but then i started doing it on my chest while i semi layed on the couch (if that makes sense) he loves his floor/tummy time now and has only just started rolling from tummy to his back.

i wouldnt worry too much about what babies a supposedly "meant to" be doing, she'll go when shes ready

    ^ I agree
My DD didn't roll until 5 months, sit up or get her first tooth until 9 months, crawl until 10 months....and then the bugger got up and walked right on time at 12 months when we thought after everything else being so late it would take forever!

There is way too much pressure put on mums and babies by "healthcare" people about milestones.
If I had listened to any of it my DD would have been in physio and god knows what else as well. I knew in my gut that she didn't need it. Now she is at the same physical stage as any other kid her age. It all evens out in the end, trust your instincts and don't push her regardless of what anyone says.
If there truly IS a problem you will know.

My DD is 5.5mnths and although she was rolling at 3mnths that was alot earlier than DD1. As for the tummy time DD has only just started to spend around 10mins at a time recently, mainly because she was a bit chukky (hence recently) and like your bubby starts to cry after a while.
DD1 didnt cut her first tooth till 1 day before her first bday and my little sister NEVER crawled she just went straight to walking.
All children are different and reach the different milestones in their own good time, so I wouldnt worry.

    Red face milestones...

my daughter is 7 months old, and has never rolled over, she prefers to sit up instead, the clinic i attend doesnt seem to be that concerned saying that she probably will get up and walk, or bum shuffle, i wouldnt worry too much....one thing i have learnt is that theses milestones are just a guide , if u have a group of ten babies chances are all would be doing different stages...hope i helped....

Oh that makes me feel better. I wouldn't even take her to physio except the hospital suggested it for her because she was a premmie. And I always get told "she should be rolling by next time I see you..." Sigh. She seems like your baby Livtan, she loves sitting up, but isn't fussed on tummy time at all. I wouldn't be worried if she decided to bum shuffle instead of crawl, but the physio is.
But it's nice to see everyone's babies took their own time and they all got there in the end!

My DS is 6 months and he can not sit up without support, he did roll for the first time at about 3 months but he only does this on a rare occasion. My MCHN said that if they don't like tummy time just try putting them on there tummy everytime you change their nappy for a few mins then by the end of the day they have at least had all up around 15 mins or so! I would not worry ( i know thats hard) but everyone says all babys will do things in there own time!!

DS1 was 9 weeks prem and started rolling one way at 7 months birth age, 4m3wcorrected age. He didnt roll the other way until 9 months birth age, 6m3w corrected age.

DD2 was 5 weeks prem and started rolling both ways at 6months birth age, 4m3w corrected age.

They are all very different and it needs to be taken into account that she was prem anyway. She sounds perfectly normal to me and like shes doing great!

Your physio sounds like he has no clue! Can you get a refferal for a different one?

Some physios make me so mad!! I have had my little man at a physio as he had a bookcase fall on him a month ago and had a really stiff neck. The physio i went to was a complete and utter horrible person who put my son down at every chance telling me how he should be crawling and basically telling me it was my fault that he wasnt. Now DS is 9 months old, his accident happened at 8 months which stopped him from doing pretty much anything for 3 weeks so i dont think he is behind at all. He sits up well, he rolls around the floor and can spin himself around on his stomache and go wherever he wants to go - so he really doesnt see the need to get up and crawl lol I encourage him but i just think its wrong when physios and other people force all these opinons on someone. All babies are different and they will do things in their own time.

DS rolled for the first time at 4 months but didnt actually start rolling around the floor till 7 months. He HATED tummy time but now he can get around he loves it so you just perservere with it and do as much as it as you think you can. have you tried rolling up a towel and putting it under her arms?

Yeah I've tried the towel thing and she didn't like it too much. She is getting better though! She will actually stay on her tummy for about 5 minutes before she starts screaming. I discovered she like lying on Nanny's cushions because they are hard and she runs her nails over them and they make scratchy noises. Unfortunately we only visit Nanny once a week so might have to steal one off her!

But thanks for your advice everyone!
