    Default Fruit for breakfast

The last few days my DD has been only having fruit for breakfast. I'm talking a BIG plate of fruit though - a small banana, four or five strawberries, a wedge of rockmelon/watermelon, half a mango. All chopped up. It's a BIG breakfast.

She's discovered the joy of eating with a fork and pretty much won't use anything else. It's great, because for a while there she started refusing to be fed, but couldn't quite manage a spoon and if she was using her fingers she would just throw things on the floor or mash them into her tray.

She's gone off cereal (Weetbix / porridge) a bit, and isn't really interested in toast anymore either.

I'm just wondering if only fruit for breakfast is enough? She has morning tea, which is usually crackers, and she still has her bottle before her morning sleep. She's growing like a weed and has plenty of energy and is always happy. It's very healthy but I just wonder if she should be having some carbs as well for breakfast? She's 15 months old.

How about trying a greek/natural yogurt with the fruit to 'dip' in to add an extra element to the meal. Also a fav with kids is dipping the fruit into yogurt then into a bowl of LSA..

Good idea - she really likes yoghurt and LOVES dipping things. I've often given her yoghurt but when she decided she didn't want to be fed most of it ended up on the floor or the walls!

I think it sounds ok. We have that sometimes, she has a big breakfast which usually consists of a bowl of cereal, some fruit and 2 pieces of toast. However, sometimes she'll just have a heap of fruit cut up for morning tea. That's what she has for breakfast EVERY year for Christmas without fail. We both do lol. I just make sure she gets her grains through the day in other ways so through the course of the day, all her nutritional needs are met.

Yes she gets plenty of her other nutrients throughout the day. She has a really excellent diet actually, and is a great little eater. Plenty of veggies and grains etc, too. It's just I wondered if it was `filling' enough, I suppose, for breakfast. But she seems to be happy with it!

The yoghurt is a good idea. Fruit and yoghurt has been my standard breakfast for as long as I can remember, and I haven't died from it yet.

LOL! My mum eats fruit and yoghurt every morning for breakfast too. And has for as long as I can remember. I much prefer a light breakfast. When I get up in the morning the last thing I want is to eat. I often don't have breakfast until fairly late in the morning. But that is also just a bad habit and not one I want my kids to inherit.

This morning it was funny - she's discovered that she can actually spear more than one thing at a time with her fork, and spent most of breakfast time shoving as much fruit into her mouth as she could manage, and then having to work hard to chew it all up!

I think its fine. My kids usually have cereal or toast but every now and then they'll have fruit and yogurt. Just be thankful that its healthy and she's not eating chocolate bars or whatever. If you'd prefer she eats cereal or toast, what about putting some bananas on a slice of toast or sultanas or some other fruit in with her cereal. I do this with the girls sometimes.

Because she's having the banana I think it is OK. Bananas are pretty filling, high in carbs and contain fibre.

You could do a dry muesli dip to go with the yoghurt. Actually- yum! I was never one to eat cereal or even toast for breakfast.

Fruit is good, my kids eat fruit salad all the time, better than bowls of sugar ladden proccessed cereal, thats for sure.

My 6 yr old believes the only fruit she likes is apples and watermelon, funnily though she eats every fruit if its cut up and served as fruit salad!

Adding the yogurt to'dip' stuff in is a great idea too.
