Default Weaning onto formula & constipation ?

Hi all, and for those of you who have been following my breast feeding saga... I have decided to wean my little man onto formula - after bouts of mastitis and staph infections and anitbiotic injections i am getting no better, after 6 weeks of fevers, shivers and being ill and in continual pain, i have made the decision to wean DS (and am happy with the decision) and threats of hospitalisation and antibiotics drips have been suggested..... very happy not to be breastfeeding.

So I am alternating feeds with expressed milk and then formula but the dreaded constipation has set in. I have coloxyl drops. Has anyone used them, does it work, how many doses does he need ? The poor guy, he drinks 150ml of formula or b/milk each feed and is weeing a lot, just straining for a poo, lots of very very stinky farts!

Thanks for the advice in advance !

(NAN HA Gold is the formula we are trying 4days now)

    What formula are you using?

If it's S26, it has a bad reputation for constipating babies, but others thrive on it.

I've heard Karicare can give bad wind.

S26 didn't agree with DS, so I didn't try it with DD.

DD i started on NAN but she STANK!!!! went back to what I knew was good from DS, and she then went on Heinz and no problems there. Also, some gold formulas can constipate.......Heinz do a gold and a normal one.

    HTH.

Id finish the tin you've started to give it a decent go & take it from there.

DD1 has a maintenance does of coloxyl every day, in the beginning it took about 12 hours of full doses to get her going.

Thanks Triple Time (ps saw you in the magazine & thought hmmm i kinda recognise that lady lol).... & Mummy2R&K..... We have changed to Heinz formula - and he seems to settle straight away after a feed, no crazy legs and screaming. As for the coloxyl... i gave him some with his breast milk feed last nite and guess what... today we have POO and i mean POO so much he needed a bath, i am thinking about giving him a nightly dose for now. And he is sooo much happier and less STINKY already on the Heinz formula it seems to really agree with him.

    Thanks ladies for the advice
