    Smile Royal Woman's Melbourne

    Hello all

What was your experience like at the RWH in Melbourne?
Did you stay in the family birthing unit or in the maternity ward?

    Thanks

I had a dreadful time there. I was in the maternity ward for 4 days. I found the staff to be very rude and unhelpful. But it is possible that I may have lucked out and got all of them on a bad day.

    I had three births there.
I didn't feel that comfortable there, I think it was just me....
Last preg I planned to stay in the birhing centre but they stressed cos of my health issues namely my iron levels.
I think it would have been much nicer in the centre rather than 'upstairs'

    Sorry....
Next time I plan to birth elsewhere otherwise at home.
    Mama to 5 T 12y, N 8y, A 6y and free bub J 3y D is here too!
As normal as life can get

I did not enjoy my stay at the RWH either. I had a rough birth, some complications I shouldn't have had(epidural needle put in too far) and some of the midwives and Drs I saw postnataly were rude and unhelpful. Considering how unwell I was after the birth, I was given very little assistance.

I went private for my 2nd baby and went upstairs to Frances Perry which was great. I'm going there again in November.

I did start off in the birthing centre before things went pear-shaped and they were great. I can highly recommend them but there's no guarantee that you get to stay.

    Good luck

Just a bit of an update - Thank you for all your replies I was starting to get very worried as they were all bad BUT I went for my first appointment at the hospital this week and everyone was fantastic!. Both midwive and obstetrician were very helpful and kind. I've also been to emergency several times and everyone there (with the exception of one doctor) has been great too. the rest of my care is the same

    Good luck.

I should add to my post that several of my friends have had babies there and had good experiences so it's not all bad! Just make sure you're assertive and get the help you need.

Best wishes for you and bub!
