Aww...Mali is very cute & Peridot sounds extremely girly! I love them both

I'm not sure how you are going to pronounce Mali - ie. sounding it out Mar-lee OR May-lee OR perhaps I'm totally wrong

I like (sounding out again) May-lee, it reminds me of my daughters Chinese name (my DP is Chinese Malaysian) which is Mei-Ling, too cute!

    Good Luck!

I copped a lot over our choice of names, lol. My son is Aquila - which is actually a biblical name (not that we knew that at the time, and also now the name of a shoe company which means we can get him merch with his name on it, lol) and my daughter is Xanthe (pron. zanthee if you're not aware of it) - both fairly uncommon although Xanthe is around more - it was just on RPA a couple of weeks ago lol

My husband has an odd name (well in Aus), Tarquin (it's more common in aristocratic English families), and his brothers all have unusual names (Galen, Josiah, Inteus) - parents are proper hippies, lol.

Anyway we had all sorts but the kids really suit their names, and they love having unusual names that they don't share in class - mind you these days unusual names are sort of the norm, the kids with traditional names tend to stand out more in some places.

My kids are already putting pressure on me not to choose any 'common' names for this one 'if it turns out like us' (as in, if we get through OK because I wanted them to know the chances are there that it may not eventuate in a baby just yet, just in case) Aquila has the Greek alphabet out and is studying it for a name or combination of letters to make a name, lol - he was almost called Tau which is in the Greek alphabet.

ETA: (preggo brain omg sorry) I like Mali

Double eta to say we had been thinking about Dali but for what sex we didn't know, and hubby had a friend who was accidentally shot as a teenager, called Dali which might be too close to home for their family, who are still in touch with his. So it might not be an option. Plus now I'm actually pregnant I don't know if I like it anymore, lol.

    Peri would be Perdiot's nickname.

We would pronounce it Mali as in Marlee which is the spelling I've seen more than 'Mali'. But I got Mali from Zali cause that was the original name I liked...kinda gone off that now!

And I reeeeally liked Tarquin for a boy but my hubby said no! He didn't like the idea that he may be nicknamed Quinn or Quinny.

Thanks for your positive comments so far though guys, I am actually surprised anyone like's the name's at all!

Ahh yeah the nicknames on his name are pretty scary. He most commonly gets Quin, Quinny yep for sure, and Tarkers! Shocker, lol. I tend to call him Quin, so with my son I've got quin and quila lol.

The only person who has really adored it was my old doctor, who was italian - with his surname hubby sounds very italian and he looks it too, very european (he's actually irish with a bit of asian in the mix, lmao) and so my (our) doctor would call him tarquino always! Not that he could talk, my docs first name was Tulio.

if you like those nicknames it's ok but if you're not mad on quin then it's probably not the best choice

Aylaah your kid's names are AWESOME.

I especially love Xanthe. But they're both really unreal names.

Ta I like 'em, with Xanthe, I saw it online somewhere and it was the only thing I liked, so I was lucky she was a girl, lol. It means golden or fair haired and she turned out blonde (with brown & almost black haired parents), which was funny! My name is Kelly, and I always had at least 2 other girls in my class with the same name and hated it, Quin didn't and loved it, so we decided to go that way Plus I had a book when I was little and it was about a BOY called Kelly, which was just depressing, lol.

Aquila gets koala as a nick name a lot here, and at school they call him Quil, but that's about as far as it's ever been changed.

I love Reef but only for a boy!

Sounds like such a cool name to me!

I like Mali for a girl!

Other short & sweet names i like are Rani, Lani & Lexi!

Sorry not a fan of Peridot ~ sounds kinda harsh to me & people will pronounce it wrong constantly!

I prefer Jade or Amber for stone names!

    Good luck choosing!

ps. I love Summer for a girl too!!

We knew the pronounciation would be a pain so we had kinda swayed away from the name!
Actually one of my old bosses (a bloke) said would we nickname her Dot? And I said "well no because it's not PeriDOT you twit!"
