Default Need help with Girls name!

We are due in 4 weeks and we don't know what sex the baby is. We have a boys name but need help deciding on a girls name because nothing is really sticking. We've decided on Reef for a boy and are also wondering if this is appropriate for a girl?

    Mali
    Peridot
    Reef

    Thanks!

Sorry hon, can't help. I don't like any of them.

I probably wouldn't choose Reef for a girl - it sounds more like a boy's name to me. But made me think immediately of `reefer', which probably isn't the best connotation!

Chesby05 - (feels weird calling someone chesby05!) I of course had thought of Reefer in regards to Reef but I really don't think it's that bad?! Forgive me for saying so but I think a line has to be drawn with the 'association' thing unless the name is just plain silly like Stoner or Memphis-Raine or...well u know! It just get's too hard and silly to keep deviating because of what one random kid might say in the playground, u know? Kids are cruel and will use whatever, whenever to tease other kids, name will be first, then whatever else comes second! Will is a perfectly acceptable name and yet is short for Willy? Rick is ****, prick, sick. Shane the pain and you get my drift! However, I'm not an advocate for random stupid names or weird spellings either.
(Sorry! Is a bit of a controversial issue with me ;-) Thankyou for your reply! By the way, our son was born 12th Jan 07! His name is Zane!

Ezza - We were pretty much set in stone with Zali but I've heard a few in recent month's and didn't want a 'trendy' name or name that was 'in' right now, if you know what I mean! So then I thought of Mali! My husband like's it but I'm still not 100% sure that it's...right..hmmm

I love the name Zane. That is my nephew's middle name.

I agree with you on the associations thing, too. Kids will be mean and tease no matter what - I just don't see the need to make it easier for them! Having said that, Reef isn't a name that I think is particularly over the top or any more tease-prone than any other unusual name. There's plenty worse out there, that's for sure.

Reading the other posts and I actually like Memphis Raine for a girls name! It's in the mix for number 2 when we decide the time is right to have another.

    What about...
Raine, Rebekah.. what about Malinda and then you can call her Mali for short?

i like all your names for a girl, no help at all really. my fav would be mali.

i also agree with your stance on names, kids will get teased whether its their name, their hair colour, if they're fat or skinny, if they talk to much or if they are a little introverted.

I only use Memphis-Raine as an example because someone I knew used it as a hyphen name so it was "Memphis-Raine this and Memphis-Raine that" it was a bit silly but don't mind Memphis as a first name and Raine as a second!

Rebekah and Malinda/Melinda are waaaay too common for names that ring my bells. Plus the thought of someone calling my daughter Linda or Lindy or Linny for short, ew. I just like the name Mali for itself, not a shortened version of another name.

Reef is more of a boys name IMO.

    I like Mali

Other names I like are Quinn, Tamsin and Gray Although, I have no idea how popular they are!

    Good luck choosing!
