Default When to move baby to own room?

DS still sleeps in our room in his bassinett at 5 months old, we have a fairly big split level house and his room is down stairs about 15 meters away(our room is at the front of house and his half way down). I want to keep him with us until he is 1 year old. I will take the porta cot up when he has out grown the bassinett until he goes into his cot down staris. I feel silly as we have a monitor but the thought of him being that far away as oposed to next door or only a couple of doors away to us is to much for me. I know if he was closer it would be no different as would most likely only hear him with monitor as well. AM I BEING SILLY? He sleeps in his room during the day as we are downstairs as well. He is not in his cot yet as we have to get wheels to rock it for sleep times. He is in his portacot down stairs at present until we move that to our room. Does anyone else have their nursery a fair way from their room?

I wouldn't be comfortable with my baby being that far away, particularly under the age of 12 months.

In saying that, our baby is still in our bed and he'll be 13 months later this month.

I have the same problem, my son's room is at the other end of the house and i cant ever imagine putting him in his own room ever lol - i even get sad because i think about when i have another baby it will be in our room and my DS being over the other end of the house will be so lonely it really bothers me even just thinking about it

My partner does night shift. I still have the kids in with me and the eldest is nearly 4. I prefer it since if there is a problem, I have to deal with it and hanky panky doesn't happen in there anyway.

We are keeping bubs in our room. They are 5 months also. It would be the same if the nursery was right next to our room (it is across the house atm). I like having them close

I moved my little bug into his own room at about 3 months I think. His room is really close to mine though, so I can hear him easily when he stirs (I don't even have a monitor).
I really didn't want to move him in there, DH did as he is a really light sleeper and DS is a really noisy sleeper . But once he was in his own room, we all started sleeping better.
I can understand your reservations about having bub so far away. I think SIDS giudelines recommends having them in the same room as you until they're 12 months.
I would think about moving the cot into your room though, I have found using a portacot really awkward, as you can't put the sides down and they are really close to the ground, not good for your back (especially with my bug who is almost 10kg!).

Both of my children's rooms are RIGHT next to our room, but we kept each of them in our room until they were 8 or 9 months old! With a monitor!!! LOL

I just couldn't bear the idea of them being lonely at night.... plus they are both good sleepers so it half the time it was like they weren't even there.

The right time to move them is when you feel it is the right time.

I dont think you're being silly - we swapped rooms when DD arrived as I didnt like the thought of her being right down the front "on her own" so to speak... She went in her own room at 8 weeks old - best thing we did as she slept right through the night from day one

Thanks guys think will keep him with us until 12 months. We sleep him in his nursery downstairs during the day but in our room at night being split level there is only 5 stairs but I call it upstairs. We will move him out of bassinet this week into his cot in our room and keep setling in the portacot during day but will this confuse him? Daylight savings makes it hard we have blackened his room but not ours so will have to keep him settled in his room at his 7pm sleep time until the sleepy feed ( 1030pm) but I do want to eliminate this soon.
