Question Metformin / Diaformin in Pregnancy

Hi, I am just wondering if anyone has taken Metformin during pregnancy, and if so for how long?

In my previous pregnancy I had conflicting messages from the IVF specialist and my local GP clinic. One said it should be taken, the other said it shouldn't. I stopped taking it on the advice of my GP (whom I happened to see first) in my previous pregnancy. I ended up miscarrying. Probably nothing more than a coincidence, but have decided to continue the meds with this pregnancy until I can speak to an obstetrician - early Nov.

Would really like to hear from others who have been on this medication - what did you do? What do you think?

Hi. I continued taking it for the first 14 weeks. I couldn't find any evidence of a problem with it, and there are some good studies. The obstetrician had no problem with me taking it, but she wasn't bothered either way.

i continued taking it until i reached 13 weeks.

That was under the guidance of both my ob and endocrinologist. The research i have seen is that it lowers the rate of m/c for PCOS sufferers from 60% down to the population average of about 25%.

My ob basically said that it often costs the pharmaceutical companies too much to have the drugs reclassified as safe for pregnancy but that all the available research suggested that it is was completely safe.

I continued with it......i did M/C, but i wont blame the metformin........Both FS told me to keep going and also tbh, gp's are just that...they are general practitioners, so to ask them specific questions is hard for them iykwim. Thats why they send you off to specialists.......

    Good luck with everything!
