    Default Bike Trailers

DH is looking at buying a trailer for his bike so he can take DD when he goes riding, as he really wants to start exercising again. He feels that the trailer would be safer for DD if he was to come off.

The trailer we saw at Target today suggested for use with toddlers 18 months and older. Has anyone used one of these on a baby younger than that? Our DD will be 8 months old tomorrow, although she is the height and weight of an average 12 month old.

For those of you who have used these with a younger bub, where did you buy the bubs helmet from?

We don't have a trailer so I can't help on that side but we got dd2's helmet from big w(she's 7months). It's a Dora helmet with an adjustable thing on the back of the helmet so she gets a better fit for longer. Target didn't have the adjustable part on their helmets. From memory it was $25-30.

Yep on a seat. We have 1 on each of our bikes, dh takes dd1(aged almost 4), and I take dd2(7 months). The girls both seem to enjoy it

we got the exact same one im guessing but got it from target.
but it was in one of our targets and not the other.
i have seen that brand in kmart, toys r us, big w and target.

we got DD2 one from a bike shop, since she was so young i wanted a really good one and decided on an infant one. it also adjusts but is designed for younger children, DD1s old one fit her ok but i LOVE her one on her better.

we have a bike trailer, DP loves it and has taken the girls out a fair bit but mostly he just goes with DD1 (since she was about 2 or 3).
DD2 started going in it when she was around 15 months but only on very short trips....she is just a bugger sometimes and does not sit still, maybe this is why they say over 18 months (mind you she is now 19 months and STILL wont sit still ). the harness in them is not like a car seat so is rather 'loose', she use to get out of it and muck around...hence the VERY short trips.

We had really good luck with getting DD to come out biking with us by using a Wee Ride. Sounds like you have your heart set on a trailer but I thought I'd introduce another possibility!

It is a bike seat which sits on the front - in between the rider and the handlebars. So the child is in between your arms. DD loves being at the front of the bike and seeing everything from a birds eye view! We even got a special horn for the bike which she spends most of her time entertaining herself with. And since they are up the front with you, you can chat to them about stuff as you are riding past.

My DH didn't want a trailer as he was concerned about the width problem (having to change your mindset about how wide your load is when you can't actually see your load) and I was not keen on a seat behind me (I was worried that if I took a fall then I couldn't protect DD) so the front seat thing was perfect.

DH and DD go out riding a few times a week and they both love it so much.

Just got the helmet from a bike store. DD HATED it with a passion at first but now she loves it (to the point of wearing it around the house). They are such funny creatures. ...

Hey thanks TKK, we were looking into a trailer too but the wee ride sounds fantastic! Is it suitable for bubs as young as 8 months? Did you buy it from a bike shop?

Yay! We love it. Yes, bought it from a bike store (not sure where you are sorry, didn't check before replying, but PM me if you are in Brissie and want to know where) but just google it and you'll see their website with pictures and details. I think the recommended age is a year - but that's standard for bike riding whether it be trailers or seats as you want to make sure that their little necks can take the bumps and jolts that come with riding. Worth holding out for though! Happy trails!
