Default Just a silly little niggle ...

... does anyone else find it a little irritating that whenever a family is in a TV commercial it always has to be a family of four with Mum, Dad, boy and girl?

What about families that have three girls? Or no girls? What about families with only one child?

I know this is really quite stupid and pointless, but I just saw yet another car ad with yet another perfect nuclear family and it annoyed me.

Like most things do, these days

Oh yes, and in a few months I will have a `perfect nuclear family'. Should I sign us all up to an ad agency??

Oh dear - we only have two dogs! We had three cats too but my Mum stole them off me when hers died

And our dogs aren't even golden retrievers, either.

What I also picked up on is the fact it's always a wedded parent. Be it a mother or a father on the advert, there is always a wedding band!

What about the solo parent of the world with one child.
Or what about a family with 5 kids?
Or what about a family with mixed race children, gay parents and perhaps one child physically disabled?

Are these sort of families, not normal today?

The Napisan ad where the family of 4 is getting their photo taken has 2 girls...

Does anyone watch 30 seconds on Comedy Channel? I suspect the typical nuclear family is used in advertising because it's familiar and comfortable to viewers. Having another other type of family would upset the familiarality of that, and the product wouldn't get sold...

Always? They must be failing then - you musn't be watching the product!

I don't really observe that kind of stuff in ads. If they had more kids I guess they would have to pay more actor fees!

There is a baked beans one here with two boys - now I will be observing!!

If they only had one gender someone would probably complain about that to them.

Well the adverts I've actually watched and paid attention to, I've pretty much always noticed a wedding band anyhow.

Yes, your right, I should pay more attention to the product
