    Default False Teeth???

Just wondering does anyone or their partner have false teeth??

If so can you tell me about them?
    How much they cost you??
How painful was it having all your teeth removed and them put in??
How long did you go with no teeth before they were put in??
    Do they look really fake??

A million questions. My teeth are shocking - I have had that many removed and the rest are all breaking and have holes. Trying to get them fixed in the public system is a joke (8 year wait here) so I am thinking I will have to go private!!

I can access some of my super to do it just have a million questions first.

I recently got my first set of dentures and I tell you it's amazing.

If so can you tell me about them?
    How much they cost you??

I had shocking shocking teeth for years, partly gentics and partly my own fault. After years of putting up with infections and abscesses my DH convinced me (after a night in the ED with pain!) to get things sorted.

The whole process took exactly 6 months to the day. I had 14 teeth taken out over 4 months and then a 2 month healing period where I was down 14 teeth. Yes - it was embarrassing as a 22 year old and I thought I'd go nowhere but I learnt to talk in a way that no one even noticed.

Having my teeth out was painful, but I had an amazing dentist who was the greatest. And that's coming from me who had a hugggeee phobia of the dentist. More so than the normal person. But, having them out was so much better than having them in with all the pain I was in.

Do they look fake? Absolutely not. My dentist spent a good 45mins finding the perfect colour to my bottom teeth (we we able to salvage my bottom set of teeth and only end up with a top set) They look perfect. Absolutely straight and not so white that they look fake.

All up it cost us around $6500. But we were able to pay it off after we put down a deposit of $2000.

Crazymama - from memory we live in the same area. I could be wrong though...Bundaberg? I can recommend an excellent dentist.

Let me have a look at some photos and see if I can find one with my teeth in it that you can see.

Any more questions, I'm more than happy to answer. Having my teeth fixed and having the denture in place changed my life.

My DH's ex has had them done (she lost hers for a number of reasons). I hate to say it but they look really good. She had them done through the public system though, I think she had a 3 year wait (in Canberra) but is also on a disability pension so that might have sped things up.

I think that's awesome that you can do this for yourself

I have one, result of a cleft palet.

I got my first at the age of 16, 2nd at 18 & 3rd next year at 22.

1st was attached to braces, people didnt notice unless i said or already knew. Same with the second which is attached to a retainer & keeps my teeth in alignment. 3rd will be on a maryland bridge, they grind the back of the teeth either side by .6mm & glue on 2 bits of titanium thay hold the tooth.

If so can you tell me about them?
How much they cost you?? Mine is abut $1500, that includes all xrays, the works
How painful was it having all your teeth removed and them put in?? I didnt have a tooth there in the first place. I did have a deformed tooth pulled, wasnt too bad.
How long did you go with no teeth before they were put in?? 16 years. other reasons.
    Do they look really fake??
    nope

    My dads experience

If so can you tell me about them?
How much they cost you?? 2 full dentures, top & bottom. Think it was 5grand including removal & hospital stay. PHI covered most.
How painful was it having all your teeth removed and them put in?? He wasnt to bad, first 3 days were the worse & still gets phantom pains 12 months later.
How long did you go with no teeth before they were put in?? 4 weeks i think. needed a few adjustments
Do they look really fake?? nope.

Your gums need to toughen up before you can get a denture. Dad can now eat steak without teeth.

Hope that helps. PM me if you have any other questions.

I should clarify the $6500 it cost us included intensive work on 2 teeth which cost us $1600 for the 2 teeth.

The denture itself was only $1200 for moldings, fittings, adjustments and anything else which it needed.

Thanks ladies seems like the prices may differ from one dentist to the next - all up I think I will have around $4000 to play with - hopefully that will be enough.

Lytte I am in bundy so if you have a good dentist I would love his name - never been to one up here. Also do you remember how much just the first consultation with him was - hopefully its not too expensive to go and let him have a look and talk about my options.

Do you have the maryland bridge that triple time was talking about.

I guess my biggest fear is the pain - and walking around with no teeth either - I am only late 20's so am a bit embarressed at the thought of having to show my gums. I know in the long run it will be worth it though. Shame I don't have private health cover (not even sure if they cover dentists)

From memory it was $85, and it was a long appointment.

He got me on anti-biotics because of infection as he didn't want to start work until the infections had cleared.

His name is Dr Julian Morris and works at Barolin Dental, just on the corner or Barolin and Burnett St.

There is 3 dentists I think at the practice, but I have only ever dealt with Julian, however I've heard great things about all 3. Even the dental assistants are amazing, and after 20+ visits to them, they have become almost like family.

They also have a Prosthodontist on site who makes the dentures, of course he came after I had mine done.

Pain was a huge thing for me as well. When it came to getting teeth out, he would numb it with cream first and then it was just a small prick with the needle. Within minutes everything was numb and I then couldn't feel a thing. I was also given a prescription for panadine forte which really helped with the pain.

I'm not sure what "sort" of denture I have, but we were given 2 options. We could get a denture that could be fitted right away after my teeth were taken out and only for around $800 but it was recommended not to as your gums severely shrink and it the denture would become loose and it also didn't look as "real"
I should of only waited 6 weeks for my denture, but had some problems with healing from other teeth so was put off.

Am happy to answer anymore questions. I know how scary it is, and have only just been through it, it's all pretty fresh in my mind.

I found a pic, not the greatest but you get the gist. It was from the day I got them.

Looks good - thats what I want mine to look like again.

I have just been reading on the internet - they all say it can take a little to get used to them - that it can affect your speech at first - did you have that problem??
Also a few sites say that getting the top done can change the way food tastes - do you think so??

Its all so scary - will definetly go and see that dentist and see what he says. I honestly don't know what I need - I still have heaps of teeth - not sure how fixable they are though or if they should all just come out - guess the dentist will let me know.

Is it possible to have all the teeth taken out in one day?? Like while I am gassed??
The only reason I wonder is I am a single mum and I know how hard it is to care for the kids after having teeth out so I would have to organise someone to come and stay and help me out - I think it would be easier to have them do it all at once - not really sure.

Also you said the dentist let you pay 2000 then made a payment plan - do you mind if I ask what it was - like how much do you have to pay and how often.
