    Default All those Toddler Formulas

My bub is 17 months old, he use to be a good little eater, but has now turned really fussy.
I'm worried that he not getting enough nutrients in this food - so, should I try him on the toddler formulas??
He drinks about 300mls of cows milk per day - so would it be just as good to just give him childrens vitamins instead?
I'm confused - your thoughts would be appreciated.
    thanks

I would go for the multi-vitamin tablet/syrup. He's having enough cows milk to give him his calcium for the day, does he have vegemite on toast? Give him orange juice to drink when he's having that, the vitamin C will help the iron (in the vegemite) absorb better. Maybe try him on something like cheerio's for breakfast? They're quite nutritious, and kids like them. Will he eat eggs? scrambled eggs, or quiche is good because you can add lots of vege's and it still tastes pretty much like scrambled eggs. We call quiche "scrambled egg pie" because DD will eat that - she won't eat "quiche" LOL. Fussy kids, hey!! I was one, apparently. My Gran used to call me a "fussy bugger"

I thank the big guy that i have toddler formula to fall back on because Boof wont drink cows milk let alone have anything made with it although we are able to con him into eating cereal sometimes with it.
He has a bad reaction to yoghurt, wont eat cheese, wont eat eggs
Yes i love how my little boy went from eating everything to only eating specific things at least i know he will eat his vegemite sandwiches & vegies !
As Queenie said if he is eating a lot of the stuff she has mentioned i wouldnt worry about it especially when he drinks that much cows milk !!!!
Sounds like he is doing great ........ Wanna swap

Although it is a godsend for us with little miss won't drink cow's milk EVER, children's vitamins will do the trick if you are worried.

Allyoo, my bub wont eat cheese, isn't fussed on eggs - he loves yoghurt would eat it for every meal if he could. He only eats plain bread or vegemite on toast, rasin toast. He sometimes eats a huge dinner (still pretty mashed up) and then sometimes refuses to eat.
I went from having a bub that ate everything to this little stubborn eater - it gets really frustrating. He wont eat fruit.
Anyway, I had been giving him vitamins...so I'll just stick with that for now - its just you get bombarded with the ads on tv for the toddler formula and it makes you start doubting what you are doing.
(ps he loves chocolate and biscuits....ooohhhh boy.....)

Aaaaaah ok BG sounds like we are both in the same boat !!!!
The thing we have to remember is that now they are toddlers their eating does slow down & they start understanding tastes as well as what they do & dont like ! ( unfortunately hehe )
As i have been told a million times by everyone i guess we have to understand that they wont let themselves starve & they wont but its just you feel guilty etc etc.
So yeah i do use the toddler milk not just because of this but because he wont drink cows milk & he also reacts to it if he has too much same with the yoghurt thats why we now steer clear of it cause he would live on yoghurt too if he had the choice but then pays for it with tummy pains, restless nites & horrible poos ( sorry tmi ! ).
Its nice to know others are having the same stresses as me even if its no fun !

Well I'm lucky in that mister couldn't care less where his milk comes from, can or milk bottle so long as its his bott bott he's happy!!
But the adults in our house don't eat read meat at all and although I try to give it to the little man (and white meat too) etc he wont have a barr of it and I worry he is missing out on iron.

So I bought a can of that toddler stuff and give to him once a day if I remember, just to top up his nutrients until he hopefully decides that he likes meat.
He's getting premolars now so that might make him more keen to try meat!!

I'm not sure if it does much good or not, but at $15 for a can and only giving it once a day means it lasts for ages, making it relatively cheap. It has also come in handy on the odd occasion that we have run out of cows milk, and noone has bothered to tell me until little mister is hysterical dying for his bottle.

ah, lindsay don't feel terrible - I have given DS wheatbix for dinner before and also for lunch cause that is the only thing he would eat (other than a 3rd tub of yoghurt)

i keep trying to tell myself look at what he eats over the WHOLE week rather than day by day...some days he is shocking and doesn't have much good stuff - other days he polishes off a huge plate of mashed up veggies

isn't it funny how...well...almost accomplished you feel when they actually eat something healthy and even more so, something you have slaved lovingly over the stove to cook??? whereas when he refuses to eat, I do often get frustrated and think "what am I doing wrong here??"

i was thinking of maybe trying the toddler stuff but instead of giving it to him just plain - maybe making a smoothy out of it - so I can try and get some fruit into him....
