Weeks and Months in pregnancy

I was sitting in bed last night thinking about-

How 20 weeks is half of pregnancy

but if pregnancy goes for 9 months then 4 and a half is

this might sound stupid but I cant work it out,

Im 5 months in theory I should have 4 months left but I dont, I have 4 months and 3 weeks til my due date

Sorry if i sound confussing, I just dont get it,

I could be crazy or it could be baby brain lol

Im going to go with crazy

A pregnancy actually goes for 10mths/40wks (2wks of that you arnt pregnant) So when you are 5mths/20wks you are half way.

Yeah they say 9 months but it is actually 40 weeks so it equates to nearly 10 months. As Indigojackiah said the first 2 weeks you aren't actually pregnant though. so technically you are pregnant for approx 38 weeks. They date your pregnancy from the first day of your last mentrual period, which is where the 'extra' two weeks comes from.

Congrats on being half way!!
The whole 9 months/ 40 weeks is a little confusing because each calendar month is actually a little over 4 weeks. February is 4 weeks, but most are 4.3/4.2 weeks. So in the end it is just over 9 calendar months that you are pregnant (almost 9 and a half months) which equates to 40 weeks. And like IndigoJackiah said, you aren't pregnant for the first 2 weeks, so it's really about 9 months (or 38 weeks). I usually just go by how many weeks along I am.

Yeah how annoying is that!!?? I remember thinking the exact same thing 1st time around. I felt so ripped off I had to wait another whole month!!! They should tell you it is really 10 months not 9

That's why it's so infuriating that when women get to 42 weeks, they are considered "over due" and often are induced.

The logic is that 42 weeks is full term, not 40 weeks.

my last pregnancy i actually went into hospital and said i was 5 months n got into trouble for counting in months lol has to be weeks

It's because there aren't 4 weeks in a month, like others have said. Not a `calendar' month, anyway.

So if you go by weeks, you are half-way through at 20 weeks.

20 weeks doesn't equal five months, because again, there aren't exactly 4 weeks in a calendar month. 4 weeks equals 28 days. But calendar months are 30 or 31 days with the exception of February of course.

That's why there's a difference.
