Default How often do you change a disposable?

I use cloth most of the time but now DD is older we go out more and use disposables when we go out. I have no idea how often you are supposed to change a disposable - they seem like you could leave them on all day compared to a cloth! The longest she's had one in is 4 and a half hours. Is that too long?

I didn't use them for DD, but in childcare they're changed every 30 minutes in the Nursery and every hour in the Toddler and Pre-Kindy rooms. If they aren't needing changing in that time, they are checked again after 15 minutes in the nursery and 30 minutes in the Toddler and Pre-Kindy rooms. It's been like that in all centres I've worked in.

I would average around every 2-3 hours - obviously if my daughter has pooed it comes straight off.

If it's not pooey I would probably leave it on about 3- 4 hours, because if he has a disposable on we are probably out somewhere, and I don't really want to be changing a nappy if I don't have to.
I leave disposables on about 6 - 10 hrs overnight. I leave my cloth nappies (bumgenius) on about 2- 3 hours without a problem.
My DS never complains about a wet or dirty nappy, so might be different if your bub is a bit more sensitive to it.

My daughter has hers on for 13 hours overnight with no leaks at all! I use Nature's Baby

We change DD about every 2 hours unless she's done a poo (which is normally just after I've changed her...cheeky monkey).

oh yes, I meant during the day!She goes 11-12 hours overnight in cloth.

Usually in cloth I change her every 2 hours.

I'm surprised they change them so often in daycare. I feel like it's such a waste of a nappy if there's not much in it, and the wetness gets locked away anyway so it's not like she's sitting in a wet nappy like it can be with cloth.

And yes, pooey nappies come straight off here too!

Nappies get changed with feeds in our house. So 6 a day when she was born and now 4 a day (4 hourly) at almost 5 months. Of course allowing for 1 - 2 dirty ones on top of that. She lasts 10+ hours at night.
