    Default wind and breastfeeding

I am breastfeeding my dd2 and she gets terrible wind - sometimes it comes up easily and others not so easily. If it doesn't come out she is in pain for a long time. I went to see the child health nurse who suggested drops and watched how I was feeding - she said two things
    1. I have a huge supply and she is basicly gulping it down and
    2. her attachment is not the best - she makes a clicking sound every so often and is sucking in air.
I have tried everything to change her attachment but can not seem to get her to not make a clicking sound. Any thoughts
    cheers cindy

My DS always make the clicking sound and never gets wind - I don't think it's a good indicator of poor attachment.. Air getting in however is. Have you tried different positions (football hold)?? This works at getting bubs on at different angles. You could also try and express a bit before a feed so the let down isn't as strong and your baby doesn't struggle to swallow a fast flow.

DS is a clicker at times. Our LC suggested that when I latch him on, to aim the nipple up towards the roof of his mouth, just behind where his front teeth would be, almost like aiming it straight up. THis makes him take a lot of the bottom of the areola which is good, plus it kind if directs the milk away from the back of his throat, and it seems to help with the gulping and clicking as well. It also is great wen he's got a snuffly nose, cause it gives him plenty of space to breathe fromhis nose.

I found this page really helpful, as it has pictures! http://www.breastfeedingonline.com/whenlatchingpdf.pdf
