Question What to do with a snacker? 5 month old doesn't eat much

I have a 5 month old boy (will be 6 months in a week). He is on the small side, only about 6.4kg (around the 7th percentile now but was huge at birth, 4.19kg) and we cannot get him to take more than 100 to 130ml at a time! From what I read, he should be over 200ml per feed now. But he just won't do it...

He eats frequently, sometimes after only an hour he'll eat again. But he only averages about 750 ml per day. Sometimes he'll have a little over 800, but not usually. Health nurse says he needs 900ml a day for proper growth.

We started him on cereal early hoping it would help with weight, but he's not a fan of solid food either.

Any suggestions? He seems healthy and happy other than not eating much. Sleeps and naps OK, 6 or more wet nappies a day... everything else seems normal.

    Hi

have you tried some pear with the farax? J wouldn't take it on it's own, put with pear, he liked it more.

Although, when he started solids, he seemed to reduce his feeds for the first few days

Could you try and see a Pead? Perhaps there is physilogical reason for him not being able to take more than that?

What formula is he on? Perhaps he doesn't like the taste much? (I'm grabbing at straws, lol)
Have you tried any wind drops? There were formulas that ave J really bad wind, that only wind drops would help with. (Infants freind/infacol) Once the pain in his belly was gone, he would take more.

    He isn't chucky is he?

There are a few things you can do. My DS is the opposite & likes to string his out.
Offer a solid feed after a bottle feed & keep trying new things till he takes to something - takes 10 days for a baby to get used to a non milk taste.
Offer a milk feed every 4 hours & push the point with him.
When he says his had enough, come back in 10 minutes.

My all time fave is to threaten DS with another feeding tube. Works for about 2 days.

A trip to a pead. could be an idea to see if there is an underlying problem
