    Default Money

What wouldn't you do for money?

What occupations would you say no to and why?

What could you live with and what couldn't you live with?

Is there a line and where is it?

What sort of workplace ethics do you feel people should have?
I can't go to bed, someone is wrong on the internet.

What wouldn't you do for money?

I wouldn't marry someone purely for money.
I wouldn't sleep with someone for money.
I wouldn't steal things to get monet.
I wouldn't involve myself in any illegal activities for money.

What occupations would you say no to and why?

    Prostitution.
I wouldn't work for people or companies that exploited people, especially to make a quick buck.
I wouldn't work for people who were only interested in money for the love of money is the root of all evil.

What could you live with and what couldn't you live with?

I couldn't live with being dishonest when it comes to money. Karma will come and bite you in the a$$ sometime.
Greed - the excessive love of money and other possessions.

Is there a line and where is it?

My line is - I ask myself am I happy. Yes, you bet I am. More money would not make me happy. Sure, there are a few thins I would do with that little bit of extra cash but I am very contented right now.
It would be different for individuals - some people are greedy. I don't like greed. People mistake money and material wealth for happiness. People's basic level of comfort will differ. That is where an indivdual's line is different and people will do strange things for money.

What sort of workplace ethics do you feel people should have?

Honesty, integrity, dignity, respect for other people.

What wouldn't you do for money?
Anything illegal, or that crosses any moral boundaries for me- eg prostitution, degrading other people etc.

What occupations would you say no to and why?
Repetitive menial tasks (eg assembly line)
    Anything mentioned above
And then at the other end of the scale- lawyer and doctor are off the list, simply because I'm not cleverer enough

What could you live with and what couldn't you live with?
Well, we have (before kids) lived with quite a lot of excess. DP and I both had fairly good incomes, and we got used to getting anything we wanted when we wanted.
Now, just living off DP's income and trying to pay off our debt quickly, we have discovered just how much we can go without. All the cream- we don't really NEED it. It's nice sometimes but not necessary to live.

Is there a line and where is it?
The line is up to the individual. DP's line is way further down the road than mine is. He can happily spend away and lust after money a lot longer than I can. My own personal line regarding wanting money is drawn at feeling negatively towards anyone better off than myself. I used to be like that, but one day I realised it only made me miserable, and so I just don't think about that stuff any more.

What sort of workplace ethics do you feel people should have?
Honesty, integrity, loyalty, respect (for employer, business and self)

I assume I understood your questions correctly...?

What wouldn't you do for money?
    • I would not do anything that crossed my ethical and moral boundaries for money.
    • This would include:
    • Marrying for money
    • Exploiting others for money
    • Illegal activities

What occupations would you say no to and why?
    • Prostitution
    • Pyramid/Umbrella marketing schemes
    • Any unethical profession.

    • What could you live with and what couldn't you live with?
    • I could live and be comfortable with having enough to provide for my children
    • I could live without all the extra trimmings if we had to.
Is there a line and where is it?

What sort of workplace ethics do you feel people should have?
    • All the things Lozzaaa pointed out.

What wouldn't you do for money?
Anything that goes against my morals and values as a person.

What occupations would you say no to and why?
As above, I would not work in a field that goes against who I am as a person.

What could you live with and what couldn't you live with?
I could live without all luxuries (and internet for me is a luxury )
I could not live without food, clothing, accommodation, power/gas to run the house.

Is there a line and where is it?
I don't know where the line is, I'm working in a field I've been in for 11 years and hate working in, but since I'm qualified in that area, it's the only work that's available for me right now and paying the bills and putting food on the table is more important than staying unemployed and gaining qualifications in another area.

What sort of workplace ethics do you feel people should have?
I think that all workers should have appropriate breaks, paid and unpaid, during the day. All workers should have fair and equal pay regardless of gender. All workers should have appropriate holidays available.

What wouldn't you do for money?
To be honest I would do just about anything at the moment. The only thing I can think of that I wouldn't consider is anything that could either harm something/somebody or anything that had the potential to truly hurt someone emotionally.

What occupations would you say no to and why?
Sad and simple fact is that financially I am desperate - there is no occupation I would say no to - as long as it got the $$ rolling in I would be there.

What could you live with and what couldn't you live with?
I am living with only the bare essentials so I know I can do that and still be happy (even if I might whinge about it a abit).
I think even if I took a degrading job I could easily live with myself knowing that what I was doing is providing a good life for my children - that is my only concern in life.

Is there a line and where is it?
For me theres not. Its really simple for me - i don't have a burning desire to be rich - but to provide a decent life full of experience for my children - when I had money I would never have even considered some of the work that I have been thinking of lately - I guess that is a huge difference I can see in people who are rich/comfortable and the poor. Its not that I don't have morals and values - more that I am willing to sacrifice those to provide for my family. I will sacrifice myself for my children without hesitating.

I agree with Crazymumma.... your values and morals are more likely to be less important the more necessary the money is.

There's a really fabulous book "Call me Elizabeth" about a woman who worked an office job, lived a nice middle class life in the UK.... but they were sinking financially and her husband was doing stuff all to help.

She ended up doing escort, yes prostitution, to support her family, save the home of her children, stop them from having to be taken from their schools, etc. She did what she felt she needed to for as long as she needed to.

Although I don't think I could do it there are many other lines of work that I would definitely consider if it meant saving my family from being evicted or starving. Unfortunately there is only so much help some people have access to.

I don't know. I think like everything in life it's all relative.

Raising a little woman and a little man the best way I can.

Grateful for the blessings in my life

What wouldn't you do for money?

Steal from family and friends, get into large amounts of debt I couldn't get out of, sell drugs or get involved in any sort of con.. I won't say I wouldn't prostitute myself for money. there have been times I have been hungry and broke.. and I didn't do it.. but I could.. and if I had to I would. because at the end of the day, I would feel better performing a job, even a job like that, and getting paid, than stealing some guys cash or ripping someone off. I think there are worse occupations than prostitution. People say they wouldn't do it, but at the end of the day, if you really REALLY had nothing, most people do what they have to do.

What occupations would you say no to and why?

-Sales, including anything with commissions and anything including a party plan(not because I think it is evil, I would just be bad at it.)
-any job where I had to rip other people off, or where I discovered me or the company was misleading people
-i would never ever be a real estate agent.. sorry to all the nice real estate agents.. I personally never met any.. but I am sure they do exist, so I have heard

What could you live with and what couldn't you live with?

I have and could live without
    a) a working toilet (because my landlord refused to fix it, and I was very young and didn't know I had rights)
b)electricity (we have all done that i'm sure. only because I've been camping
    c)a car
    d)nice clothes
    e)a bed
f)internet although I would miss it lots
Im sure there's heaps more that I just take for granted

    I could NOT live without
    a)running water
    b)some clothes
    c)family/friends/support and love
    d)food

I just realized this question could mean.. like could I live with doing immoral things for money? if I really believed I was doing something to harm others, even indirectly, I know I personally would feel huge amounts of guilt and would find another to get that money!! i could live with doing some bad things for money, to keep my family clothes and fed.

Is there a line and where is it?

Line is anything where you gain profit, and others lose out. that goes for people who run big companies who roll around in money and lay off staff/lose families savings.. but still keep their mansions and millions.. that goes for people who sell drugs to crack heads, and can dress in new clothes and buy expensive jewelery, while crack heads continue down their path...

What sort of workplace ethics do you feel people should have?

honesty and empathy and a sense of responsibility to others

I think if it came down to it, honestly I would sell an organ on the black market if I had to have money for my kids ...

I guess there isnt anything I wouldnt do for them iykwim ...

That being said we live in a very lucky country that means that I am obviously not that desperate so I do have lines at this point in time & they are obviously like a lot of pp who wont steal or commit illegal acts, prostitute myself in any way etc nor would I work for a company that I felt was unethical ...

But as I said if it were truly needed there isnt anything I wouldnt do ....

I have lived for a period of time without any luxuries, all we had was water, food (what was donated, not much though) and shelter(one room for three adults and a toddler), no clothes (but the clothes on our back, no underwear OMG that was the worst, not having clean underwear to put on after a shower) no material posessions and no money (gee thanks centrelink for offering to help us- sarcastic tone).

It was very hard but if we didnt work things out i would probably have done anything for money, if that was the way we had to live for longer than two months. To feed and clothe my son i would have done anything (except something that would put my life in danger, because that wouldnt fix anything). You never know what you have until its gone.
