    Default is this normal?

Hey all My poor bubba, my mum just noticed his gum is all swollen and bruised where it appears a tooth is coming. I'm just concerned coz I have never seen a gum look this bad. I have a couple of photo's however they arent overly clear and dont look quite as bad but the spot you can kind of see it is really purple/blue and swollen. He's been a bit irritable from late yesterday afternoon and this morning, has just fallen asleep now. Can anyone have a quick squiz and tell me what they think?

i know, the photos were taken on my phone so not the best quality, might try and get a better one when he wakes. thanks tamara

I will just add, the two middle ones are definitely coming too, the gums are very white on those ones, I'm just concerned because of the look of this one in that rather than it being white it is really bruised looking, like almost blue in colour?

If you are worried, take him to the doctor. Does it look like an ulcer on his gum? Teething is never a pleasant experience and he may just be having a rougher time that others. As I said though, if it is worrying you take him to the doc

It doesnt look like an ulcer, its in that tooth kind of shape iykwim. I thought about the doctor, but I dont want to look like a dill if its just a tooth you know? I've never seen one look this bad, but thats why i thought id ask on here to see if its just like you say angroc, a bit worse than most maybe.

if your really worried id be taking him to the doctors....

how old is you little man??? he might be getting his teeth all at once (which would be very painfull and hard on him and you)

ive know a few babies who have gotten there eye teeth before the front ones... so that not unusual...

swelling and tenderness is normal when teething... so is a bit of discolouration... (my dd had all this!!!)

if hes really miserable id give him some pain relief... panadol or teething gel... or a cold teething ring etc... for comfort and possibly take him to the docs if he gets worse...

I know how you feel about taking him to the doc for every little thing, but thats what they are there for. And if it just means them telling you, you are over reacting at least your mind is at ease
See how he goes over the next couple of days and if it doesnt look like its has improved at all by Monday, maybe the doc is the answer. Good Luck and I hope that pesky tooth pops through soon!

It is normal for the gums to get a little red and swollen... it could be that he has some food or something that has become lodged in the gum making it a bit infected? you could try giving it a bit of a brush with a soft toothbrush and give bub lots of things to chomp on to hurry the tooth through. Bonjella is great for pain relief if you think it's bothering him and also brauers teething relief is a god send! If you're concerened and it doesn't go away in a day or two, I'd take him to your GP to double check.

ok thanks girls, I think I will do just that! See how he goes over the next couple of days. Emi he is 10 months. The poor little mite, it must be so painful. I just tried to get some hylands on my way home but the chemist didnt have them. I'm a little iffy on bonjela but if he's really miserable I will use that, maybe some panadol. he's going to look so funny if this comes through before all the others?! I just spoke to dp too and he showed the boys at work the pic and a couple of them said their little ones gums did the same thing which makes me feel a bit better. Its just a shock when something pops up like that out of nowhere, at least it explains why he's been a bit grumpy though

its horrible when theyre teething!!! for bubba and for parents!!!

one little boy i know got his i teeth first ... he looked like a little vampire when he smiled!!! it was so cute!!! lol

trying giving him a cool teething ring to chomp on... it will help the teeth to come through and the coldness will give him some relief on his gums... i had to buy my dd several of these... some i put in the freezer for 5 mins so they were really cold and she loved it... make sure have a few though coz once the coldness goes... you'll want another!!! that should help out a little... if you dont like using bonjella or other numbing creams...
