"AMENMENT TO EQUAL OPPORTUNTIES ACT TO PROTECT BREASTFEEDING REJECTED IN PARLIAMENT TODAY BY LIBERAL PARTY. The bill introduced today by Michelle Roberts of the Labour party, at the last minute today, was rejected on the grounds that there is enough protection for breastfeeding within the Act as it is. This happened despite Colin Barnett’s previous statement in the Press that he would not stand in the way of this passing. The amendment has now been taken back to the Liberal party room for further discussion.
IT IS URGENT TO ACT NOW and let the LIBERAL PARTY know that the
Current protection is not enough - discrimination still happens-others countries are broadening their legistlative protection - the benefits of breastfeeding and its protection have been more than substantiated. The women and people of Western Australia want this amendment now."
