Default Anyone have a Spotted Python or Children's Python

    We're getting a snake. Either a spotted or a children's python

Just wanting to hear from those who have pet snakes, share your stories on them. We have the licence, found a breeder, chosen the type of enclosure we're getting and checked out and chosen all the accessories.

    Now we wait.

While we wait, I'd love to hear stories from those of you with scaly, slithering pets

I ahve a stimsons python which isx one of the 3 varieties of children python, great pet, great with kids, i dont ahve him out all he time but when i do he is happy to be handled, he is in a 4 foot enclsure and is nearly the length of that now so i am gald i did'nt get anything smaller,t hey are great escape artists so need to n=make sure it is a secure enclosure, if you get the environment right they are very easy to look after I ahd my tank set up for 2 weeks getting the temp and humidity right before i put my snake in there I ahve him fro years with no problems, i also have a turtle and 3 velvet geckos i would love more but cant afford it as, aas you know very expensive to buy and set up, enjoy

We're getting a blue tongue to start with.

Once DS has proven he can manage a lizard, we've told him he can have a snake.

I'll watch this space to see how you go.

we have a childrens, olive and jungle python. they are fantastic pets so easy to look after.all of ours are extremely placid our 2yo runs around with them. childrens are great escape artists so ensure that your enclosure is secure, but apart from that we havent had any problems. dont feed them live food as sometimes the prey has a taste of the snake particulary if the snake isnt hungry. handle it regulary (sp?) and you will have no probs.
good luck with your new pet

Yeah it's the 4ft enclosure we're getting. We're also getting one of those small box-like ones, as many of the people we know bought one of those for when the snake was smaller and could get out of the larger one. They'd put the smaller one inside the bigger one. I'm getting one that locks, too, so that I can monitor when and how much the snake is handled. The smaller box-like enclosure is also good for short trips such as to the vet, even when the snake is fully grown. Not a good living environment, but great for vet trips so it's worth it IMO for us to pay that $100 for that extra enclosure. I'm excited!!!
