Question Toilet training 18 month old

I was thinking of toilet training my 18mth old DD. I'm not really sure how to go about it. She is forever taking her pants off and then taking her nappy off. She did it the other day when she woke up from her afternoon sleep and did a poo in her bed. (not funny!) She always tells me before she is about to do a poo or a wee. (everything is poo poo by the way). Should I wait a while or is it a good time to start toilet training her. I have recently bought a potty and she seems interested in it. I've heard that sometimes waiting too long can make it alot harder to toilet train. I know it's not a really good idea to start during winter as they have so many clothes on but she is forever taking her pants and nappies off. I need some advice!

Seeing as she is showing all of the signs of being ready, it probably couldn't hurt to try now. I waited until my first 2 were 3yrs old as I wanted them to be ready and didn't want to force them into doing it (that makes it harder), but your daughter sounds ready to me. Good luck.

How is the best way to go about starting it though. Not sure how to proceed with this?

I guess you need to decide on either a potty or a seat that sits on top of the normal toilet

I have always been told to put them onto the potty after meals etc and see if they will go.

I just put DS in a pair of jocks while we were at home. Showed him where the potty was, had it near his play area. Bit yucky I know but wanted him to have the shortest distance to go. He got wee's right very quickly but poos were another story. He was two and trained quite quickly. Once we were fairly confident we ventured out without nappies.
Once we had mastered the potty then we moved onto a toilet seat thingy.

I would not recommed using Pull Ups etc beacause DS just thought they were another nappy.

if it doesn't work out go back to nappies for a while you still have heaps of time at 18 months.

Just put her in undies and ask her every 10mins if she has to go potty. If you go out, put her on whether she wants to go or not and keep up with the reminders while out and about. Use a sticker chart as a reward system and when she has 5 or 10 stars, but her something special.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I feel more confident now about toilet training DD. I have tried to use the pull up and she just keeps pulling them down as well. I think I will try using undies and see how we go. I plan to start this weekend. Wish me luck!
