    Default But Whhhhyyyyy?

Good grief - how long does the "Whhyyy" stage go on for..... 6527 times a day is driving me nuts.... and I really dont want to answer "because I said so!"

LOL I hear ya! Ds constantly asks why????? I dont even think he cares what my answer is, he just seems to say it nearly EVERY time I speak to him.

"Shut the fridge please Lachy" Why?
"Come and hop in the bath mate" Why?
"Lets pick some of these toys up" Why?
    " It's a nice day today" Why?

    You get the drift

DS has now moved on from the 'Why' stage and into the 'I know that Mum' or 'What happens if you don't have a bath?', 'What happens if you don't go to swimming lessons?'

    Fun times!

Only one time has my answer to a child in the 'why' stage actually worked. Once. I said 'why not?'

A good response to the constant WHY is to get them to sit quietly in their room and see if they can come up with a reason.

If they come up with a reason, then it's good brain exercise. If they don't then it's boring and will soon stop the constant asking why. LOL

DD was always taught to look for the answer before asking for the answer.

we've skipped "why" and gone straight for a mix of "where is so-and-so", listing every member of the household, including animals, or asking "what's that?"... but only when it's her and I alone, she never asks anyone else, or when someone else is nearby

A 2 year old girl I used to care for used to always ask for her baby brother over and over and over if she couldn't find him. Conversations would go like this :

    "wheres billy?"
    "billy is in bed"

    Pause

    "wheres billy?"
    "billy is in bed"

    Pause

    "wheres billy?"

    And so on.....

As she got older I'd randomly ask her "wheres billy?" and no matter where he was, he could be in front of her, she'd grin and say "billys in bed"

    Too cute!

Best thing about being a carer is you give them back the end of the day and go home to peace and quiet wait... that was my previous life.... now I have it 24/7

Fun times ahead with bub I guess!!!

Also, I think "because I said so" is a reasonable answer! Because sometimes mummy is just right and we dont have to explain our choices and actions to one another, so why should we have to justify ourselves to a 3 year old!

Though its nice in an ideal world to explain everything... but... ugh.... why bother if they're not listening?

DD1 did the why stage twice. That was fun...NOT!

Now she's in the 'I know that mum' stage and the 'what happens if' stage like Extraordinary's DC.
What happens if stage is frustrating!

'What happens if you don't stop for a red light mum?'
'We could have a car accident'
"Yeah but what if you don't stop for a red light and we don't have a car accident mummy?'
'Well no one knows if you will or won't have a car accident so we stop and wait for the green light so we know it's safe.'
'Yeah, but what happens you don't stop and you don't have a car accident and you haven't waited for the green light?'
'Then I could get fined by a policeman for breaking the road rules.'
'Yeah but what would happen if there wasn't a policeman'

Enjoy that stage when you get to it. Makes you appreciate the why stage
