    Default Sweet vs Savoury??

    Hi all,

I am curious as to how bubs responded to sweet foods, like fruits, as opposed to savoury, like pumpkin/potato when first starting out?

I started with little bit of apple with cereal and this goes down a treat. After a couple of weeks I thought I'd offer some pumpkin- not popular, face screwed up and mouth would not reopen!

I left it for another couple of weeks and tried again last night but same response.

Just wondering if your bubs took to both types early on or if they favoured or refused certain types? I am not concerned yet but don't particuarly want bub to get purely a sweet tooth!

    Thanks A

I read somewhere that it's good to go through all the vegetables first and get bub liking them, before offering sweeter fruit. But I'm not entirely sure why or if it makes a difference.

i too gave my daughter sweet stuff like apple and pear when first starting feeding. then gave her veges a couple weeks later. i found she liked sweet potato but not potato in the frist couple months feeding her. and carrot and pumpkin that was a bit sweeter, later on i added potato and mixed it in to make flavour not so sweet. now she will eat plain potato and pretty much anything! (shes a bit of a piglet 0

My DD is the opposite!! She loves her vegies (especially pumpkin!) but hates fruit. She gags on apples or pears. Im not quite sure what to give her as far as that goes.

My DD started off on apple with rice cereal and loved it,then the next week tried pumpkin. The look on her face was priceless when she had the first mouthful of pumpkin. She had a suprised look/screwed up face kind of thing going on,I think she was expecting the apple taste, but she loves it now.
I'm going to take a turn about and introduce a vege one week and the next a fruit and so on.This week is pear

    Default Sweet vs Savoury

The very first food I tried my bubs on was sweet potato and he ate half a cup full!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as potato goes he didnt like it plain or blended with cauliflower I guess he found it too bland? So I mixed it with pumpkin when ever I gave it to him.

    Hope that helps

thanx everyone! we have made small steps with veges, i discovered peas pureed are really sweet and add them to pumpkin and even brocoli.

i am totally avoiding custards (think he would get way too addicted to them) and sticking with fruits and some times a little baby yoghurt.

    thanks for replies
