    Default Fractions and Engaging

    Hi everyone...

Im sorry if this has been posted before

I just got back from my middy appt and after she felt my tum she said that bub is 4/5 engaged. Silly me didnt ask her to elaborate and now that im home am wondering which way its meant to go?

Does it mean that bub will be fully engaged at 1/5?
    or
Does it mean that bub will be fully engaged at 5/5?

    Thanks

5/5 would be fully engaged which apparently doesn't happen until you're in labour? I was 3/5 engaged for about 4 weeks, including the day before DD was born. I had my middie appt that day and started crying cos I thought labour was still a while off and i was 3 days past dates- but middie said no no, you won't be fully engaged til bub is coming! Good luck!

    hey mrsshe,
i was told that 5/5 is not engaged and the head is still free
and that 0/5-1/5 engaged is fully engaged.

hope that makes sense... its all soo confusing lol

I was fully engaged early in the pregnancy with DS( I was around 33 or 34 weeks), but he still came 8 days late, so it really isn't much of an indicator as to when your baby will be born.
I was also told that 0/5 was fully engaged.

    Hey MrsShe,

The fraction used depends on the Dr/ midwife - it can go either way. Some talk about how far engaged you are, where 5/5 is fully engaged. Others talk about how far above the pelvic rim bub is - in this case 5/5 is unengaged.

I would say that if they have specifically said "4/5 engaged", you are most of the way there.... Hope this makes sense?

Good luck, hope it's your turn soon! (I am also a September mummy- to-be)
