cloth vs disposable and TT...cloth quicker?

Hi,

I was thinking of trying DS3 in cloth nappies, I know all the financial and environmental reasons but wondering if any knows if it is easier or if it makes no difference to toilet train kids depending on weather they had been on cloth or disposables? I had heard that babies that had cloth nappies TT easier as they felt the wettness more?

According to some childcare workers I heard chatting yesterday, babies in cloth are toilet-trained earlier than those in disposables. However that may be due to flawed statistics of the same parents who are more likely to opt for the "easy way out" of disposables are also more likely to delay toilet-training.

As for the "feeling the wetness more", with cloth it depends on your choices. I use pocket nappies for my toddler (and 6yo) as night nappies, and they cannot feel any wetness in the morning, though the absorbers inside the pocket are rank.

My son is 32mths and I changed to cloth nappies 3 weeks ago in the hope that it would hurry him along into "big boy undies". Week 2 and he asked to be put into undies. However 3 days worth of poo and pee in his undies or the floor, and only 4 wees on the toilet - none of which he told me he had to do (only by co-incidence that I put him on the loo); so now I have put him back into MCN. He infact asked for them this morning. So I can't say they have helped.

The first week he was quite excited even by his "new undies" - MCN!

yes I've heard cloth does encourage TT earlier... but tiera3 make a good point... is it the eagerness?? of the parent..... hmm hadnt thought of that.

i have used cloth nappies for both of my children, and they were toilet trained by 2. I have heard that girls are easier to train then boys as there is no need to learn to aim with girls.
I definitely think been in cloth helped but it is also if the child is ready they will not train if they arent ready.
I used to put pull ups on the girls at night and say they were special undies and that worked.
I just think children will train when ready but any help you as a parent can give is great.
good luck the wet accidents will be worth it when they are finally trained.

I think the old style flats without liners woould maybe hasten TT, but more for the fact that the parents got sick of washing in the old coppers, or later the time consuming twin tub :lol: They is no different in wetness against a babies skin with the newer MCN with built in liners. I ahve TT two of mine one at 2 and one at 2.5. DD1 is still in a night nappy 5.5 yrs. It totally depends on the child, not the nappy.
