I have had 2 c-sections (1 failed induction, 1 planned) and would love to get pregnant again but only if I knew it was feasible to try for a vb. I live on the gold coast and am desperate for anyone from that area to let me know if they know of any obs or midwives or even hospitals that will work with me to achieve this. I was terrified of the statistics when I saw the dr at the public hosp during my 2nd preg who convinced me it was safer to have a c-sect. I do not want this to be the case now so any help would be appreciated.

The best support you will get is available from independant midwives who normaly have caesarean rates of under 5% as recommended by the World Health Organisation. There are many great MWs in and around the GC plus a GC home birth group and the Home Midwifery Assoc of QLD which works out of Brisbane. You can hire a MW and birth at home away from doctors and hospitals unless you genuinely need one in which case you could transfer to one. You could also take your MW to a hospital when you were in strong labour and the number of possible interventions is siginficantly less. There are lots of great mums in birth groups in your part of the world and going along to National Caesarean Awareness Day at Griffith Uni would be a great start for you. National Caesarean Awareness Day Free Seminar

Griffith University is hosting a free seminar titled “VBAC: Birth Gently & Powerfully” for consumers and health care professionals, 10 am, Sunday morning September 11th in honour of National Caesarean Awareness Day (NCAD).

NCAD is commemorated each year to raise awareness of caesareans, birth options after caesarean and honour mothers of caesarean born children.



Presented in conjunction with consumer groups Maternity Coalition and Birthrites: Healing from Caesarean, the seminar will feature presentations by Dr Sarah Buckley, GP and author of the soon to be released book “Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering”, Midwife and Childbirth Educator Lynne Staff, VBAC mum and co-founder of the Birthtalk support group Melissa Bruijn and VBAC mum and NCAD spokesperson, Caroline McCullough.

If you’ve had a previous caesarean and want to know all your options for your next birth, as well as what you can do to improve your chances of a great and safe VBAC, this seminar is for you!



Morning tea will be provided. There will also be information and market displays and a lucky door prize care of “www.bestforbaby.com.au”. A gold coin donation would be gratefully appreciated to help cover costs for the day. RSVPs essential!
