Default Any Scottish mums/dads out there?

Just thought i'd say hello if there are any Scots out there!

We have recently moved to Brisbane, but were in Sydney for 7 months since arriving last October.

It was tartan day in Brisbane yesterday - quite bizarre! They had some pipe bands there, and it was good to hear all the accents

Hi, I'm from Dunfermline near Edinburgh, we live in Sydney- Manly. We've been here 4yrs, my son was born here(now 16months). Its a shame you don't live closer, i'm always on the lookout for a scottish friend.(who's staying long term) Take care

    hi lindsay

we just left Sydney in April, we were in Northbridge which would have been close!

We've been in Australia a year now (a year and 3 days actually!!) We lived in Sydney first and realy liked it, but dh couldnt find a job he liked so we moved up here. it is much cheaper to live, but already i'm finding it a bit warm! but then again the day i left hospital with dh2 was the day it was 45C in Sydney!

Have you been back home recently? We might go back in June (when at least it should be warm(ish) over there! and before ds2 is 2 and we'd need to pay for him..

Anyway if you ever feel like a chat, do drop us a PM. There are a scottish couple in our local bakers, so i do enjoy popping up there for some bread and a chat about home!

    Hi Lynn

Whereabouts are you from in Scotland? I lived over there for about 3 years (on the sunny (ha!) islands in the NW). Had to return to Australia last year as I'm an Aussie (for my sins) and couldn't stay in the UK to have bub! Daughter's dad is Scottish and his parents have just come over from the UK for their first visit (dd has just turned 1) so we've got accents galore at the moment. We live west of Brisbane and this is our 2nd summer back in Queensland...I'm dreading it, and I was born here!

I've got a job interview coming up in a week's time with a school in Scotland (it's a remote interview) and we've got fingers crossed that we can head back over there! It's so funny how we all end up moving all over the world to try and find a place we can call home...I've been back in Qld about 18months and even though my family are close and the weather is warm, my heart is still firmly in the bleak Scottish Highlands! I'm not sure if I'll be going back 'forever' but I know it'll be a long time. My family here are distraught, of course: don't think they're bothered about me but they'll miss my wee girl!

Hope things are going well for you in Brissy! Have you tried the British Expats forum? There's lots of Scots on that site and plenty of them seem to be moving to SE Qld!

(Hector is an alias, btw! I'm a girl!)

    Default Dunfermline

    Hey Lindsay
My husband is from Dunfermline, it really is a small world when we all move around so much.
As much as I love Scotland, I couldn't hack the cold, I even found England cold but I had lived in Arizona for 9 yrs before moving back home to England.
We will be moving to Canberra early next year so back to the cold we go
I love the Brisbane winter but hate the summer, I can't stand the humidity I prefer the dry heat but I guess I'm just use to the dry desert of Arizona. Strange but I'm looking forward to living in Canberra.
    Donna

Ps My Husband says Go the Pars!!!! Still a big supporter
