Default 6mth old bottle rejector started childcare this wk & not getting any milk :-(

Not sure what else to do here. No one has seemed to be able to help us and i'm worried DD2 who is 6.5mths is not thriving

We've been trying to introduce the bottle since she was 8 weeks old with absolutely zero success. We have spent hundreds of dollars on different teats/bottles and other feeding equipment and she's not sucking on any of them. Before you suggest different techniques we've tried them all too. Have also been to speech path. who haven't been able to help either.

Well time came and i had to go back to work so DD2 started child care on Monday and i really had hopes that because she was going to be away from me she would accept the bottle more readily. Picked her up from child care after 8hrs and she hadn't had any milk. The child care girls tried and tried but DD2 would not suck. I figured day 2 might be better...nope, day 2, 3, 4 and 5 went by and she still wasn't sucking. To make matters worse she's not getting any milk from me because i'm almost dried up completely.

So i've been worried sick about her and have been trying to fill her up with solids but she's only 6mths old so she should still be getting the majority of her food from milk/formula which she isn't.

She's not wetting her nappies either....she does do poo poos and the times when i do find her nappy wet i wouldn't even call it a decent wee...you can barely tell the difference between her nappy and a new one (weight-wise). I try to offer her formula on a teaspoon but the majority of it spills out and she doesn't swallow.

Who else can help me? I'm so desperate for help i'm willing to do anything at this point to get her to take a bottle

    Oh dear sounds frustrating
which bottles and teats have you tried exactly? (if you can remember them all)
Maybe try a cup or sippy cup, or even a straw?
I usually recommend tommee tippee closer to nature bottles but I dare say you have probably already tried them!

I'd be going up to the hospital and refusing to leave until someone listens to you. The fact she isn't having wet nappies is a sign of dehydration which can be extremely serious.

Have you tried a syringe and try and pop it in when she is feeding from you. It seems like you have tried everything though.
Oh and have you tried different formulas?

yep...adiri natural nurser, tommee tippee (standard teats and closer the closer to nature range), pigeon teats, the first years breastflow bottle, avent, coles, happy baby, various sippy cups that have spouts or soft spouts or straws, MAM bottles...you name it we've got it and tried it.

I'd be taking her to the hospital.. she may need some tube feeds just to keep her hydrated for the moment until you can figure something out.
What formula are you using? alot of babies hate the taste of S26 I have heard.

i'm thinking to get referred to a paediatrician tomorrow but god knows how long their wait times are

yep tried the syringe....it just spills out. As soon as i let her suck on my breast she latches on perfectly and sucks away happily until she realises there's no milk and gets frustrated.

god there must be an answer somewhere

    S26 and NAN.

I don't believe the formula is the problem because i've got a freezer full of breast milk and i put that in the bottle and she still refuses to suck.

As soon as anything artificial goes in her mouth she doesn't know what to do with it...she twirls her tonge and starts playing with the teat but never actually sucks!

I've put her to the breast and then quickly transfer a teat in and she stops sucking straight away.

I agree with Kiakai i would be taking her to hospital you don't need her at childcare again without taking any fluids. Having worked in chikldcare there is only so much they will take before you will have to take her home. And the not very wet nappies are a concern. Hope whatever you choose to do you get some answers and get it sorted
