question about how you see EI

Do you think that when they are there by them self (without the parent,like i will have to do next year) its very close to being like a child care centre?

could it be considered occasional care?

When my dd attended ei i never left her. The place must be licenced for that. Parents are aloud to leave the room but not the premises. Not sure how it works in other services though. She did attend a special program where i left her there for 3 hours one day a week but the place is registered for that purpose.

I don't know how it works in Brissy, I only know my early intervention is done with Scope (Melb) and they come to my home once a fortnight, I remain here for the entire visit.

If the children are lift by themselves then it has to be licensed the same as a child care centre..... The company I work for has a similar program, It runs only for a few hours and there are 8 children to around 4 staff, so although it's like child care it is actually totally different. It is also set up to suit the needs of the specific children on the day.

In NSW it would probably be equivalent to a pre-school, It runs during term time and it only takes permanent bookings from families. So if I child is lucky enough to get in they get the same day every week during term time and pay a small nominal fee.

Are you meaning Early Childhood Development Centres, like SEDU? My son has been going one day a week by himself for a couple of yrs now and it is a great way for them to work on the finer parts of his disability, like toiletting, puzzles, speech, dressing himself, cutting with scissors and colouring. I have found that he has learned a fair bit going but I do think of it as daycare for people with disabilities. The classes are small so they spend a lot more time one on one. I think it has given him a bit more independence and a feeling of achievement too. HTH.

My DS has been going to EI twice a week. His class has 6 kids with 3 teachers. It's not daycare he has intensive therapy with inc. speech, OT and they take him out on to local libraries, hairdresser, parks to help students with shopping centres, crowds. He has been going since Jan he has changed so much, I'm so glad I took him out of daycare cause EI has helped him SO MUCH.

He also goes to ECDU once a week, which is great and this also includes speech, OT but his EI has done a lot more.

To answer your question, No I don't think its like daycare at all. I think of it as school as it's structed like a normal day at school
