Default going nuts what is this beeping?

there is this ridiculously annoying beep coming from somewhere in my house and I can't figure out where? Its like every 5 ,mins and is so quick I can't find which room exactly its coming from. The only thing I can think of is smoke alarm? We have one in each room, do these beep when running out of battery or something? Or am I just completely loosing the plot?! Heeelp

washing machine?? ... There is a washing machine in my unit complex that beeps all the time very annoying.... But yes smoke alarms will beep when the batteries are going flat too. .... also my little brother used to have an old watch hidden in a drawer that did it too that was annoying when no one knew where it was coming from and of course it wasnt his room.

It may not be batteries, where i live we have these bugs called Earwigs (look them up) EWW and they used to find there way into the alarm because it was warm they used to make it beep, i would just open it up and tap it a bit, try this before running out and buying expensive batteries, (which i did only to discover the bug thing after 2mths of on and off beeping and lots of batteries)

There's a device you can buy that will randomly beep like this. It's a practical joke... you plant it in someone's house or office and drive them batty trying to find it, because it never beeps regularly enough to be in the right place when it goes off again LOL
