    Default Another question...

If you CC at night can you still rock to sleep during the day? or does that compromise the whole thing?
DD sleeps well during the day and settles quickly if i rock her for a few minutes - i have no issue with this and only really want to control cry at night....is that okay?

    How's the serenity?

    Hi..
I am not sure but I would think that it would probably make it harder on u both in the long run if u were to rock her to sleep during the day then cc at night.
My thought being is that she will want to choose the one that she likes best (ie. rocking) and get very confused and upset when she doesn't get it at night but can still have it during the day.

    sorry hope that made sense!

That is what i am thinking - i don't want to confuse her and in turn make CC at night ineffective.

I think you should do what feels right for you. Rocking your baby is natural and beautiful and a wonderful bonding time. I very, very much miss the days when I was able to rock my baby girl to sleep. There's more important things in life.

I have a friend who can do both with her DS, when she's out she will rock him (so she doesn't have to leave him to cry in public) and he will go to sleep easily like yours, at home she will do CC.

It's a hard one. I think it was why it took us so long to get sorted because I wasn't consistent enough, but it just depends on your bub. I don't rock him now, he's so used to going to sleep alone when he's in my arms he gets too excited

I CC'd my little one to get her to bed at night time but had to continue to rock to sleep during the daytimes as it was impossible to CC as she'd just scream and cry right through to the next feed. Eventually as she got older she learned how to get herself down for the day sleeps. It all comes with time.

So yes, it worked for me, lets hope it works for you too!

Rocking might be beautiful and lovely for bonding, but as a mum who spent 4 - 5 hours A DAY (!!) rocking my ds at 15 months of age in order to get him to sleep, there is definitely a limit!

As part of the pre bed routine it's ok to have a wind down time and if that includes a few minutes of rocking and snuggling that's fine. It may be needed more for the daytime nap as your bub might be still mentally running around playing.

For me, the issue with rocking is when the child expects to be rocked until they are deeply asleep. That can get seriously tedious.

Id say do it for both, purely for long term reasons.
I found CC to work best when I did it for all DD's sleeps, rather than just night sleeps.

I guess though all babies are the same so do what you think is best and what you feel most comfortable.

I used CC with my son and I would say to do the same thing during the day as what you're doing at night. I had the same kind of issue in that night time was fine he got the hang of the CC really quickly and would self settle no worries as soon as it got dark - day time was different. In the end I worked out that if I didn't make eye contact with him or talk to him from the time I picked him up from playing with his toys to take him to his cot he would go to sleep no worries!

Anyway its just a little trick that has worked for me - since I worked this out we haven't had to rock him to sleep. He now just goes straight to sleep without crying.
