Default What could be the problem?

My DD keeps on getting the most shocking nappy rash. It literally burns and blisters her bottom. I am really at a loss as to what could be causing it. Her poo is different, sometimes grittier in texture (gross I know) and a lot softer, sometimes watery, but not always what I would consider to be diarrhoea. When she gets this rash (it's not pimply at all, just red raw and a little raised) she screams and kicks while I am cleaning her up. I feel terrible for her, but I need to get the poo off, otherwise it continues to burn her skin.

I have also noticed that she seems to get cold sores around the same time that the nappy rash/poo issue flare up.

I have tried a number of creams, cornstarch powder, nappy free time and I can't seem to get rid of it. We have an appointment with our gp tomorrow to see what may be causing it.

Has anybody else experienced anything like this with any of their children?

I can't offer much advice but have you tried Desitin for the nappy rash? My son only had nappy rash once badly & it cleared it up in 24 hours. You get it at the chemist.

My DD had the blistered burnt bum when she ate food that she was intolerent too. DD also had the sme problem when breast-fed if I ate the wrong foods

Her poos where almost diarohea, often with semi-digested food - especially cows milk, wheat based foods and even more especially sultanas.

She'd get the most awful wind build up and scream for ages, and hated being laid on her back or having her knees lifted towards her stomach.

She never had cold sores though , cold sores are a viral sympton.

I'd be seeing the GP asap, and make notes or keep a diary of all her reactions - it's easier to have it all in writing as you often seem to forget stuff

    good luck

Sounds to me like a fungal rash, the only thing that will fix it, with fast results too, is DAKTOZIN...its an anti fungal in a thick zinc base so it will clear the fungal infection and provide a barrier also. Magic stuff.

Get the big tube as you need to apply for 7 days for max effect, its around $17 and its the best stuff ever invented

ETA, add bi carb soda to the bath also to neutralise the area while she baths.

My DD is the same. I have a feeling that is a reaction to something that she has eaten that is causing the nappy rash, but I have no idea what.

JabberJaw - I have tried Daktozin and while it gave her some relief, the instant that she did one of 'those' poos, her nappy rash would flare up. I have even tried hydrozole (I think that is what it is called), which is a cortisone based cream.
Thanks for the tip about bi-carb

We're going to attempt tt-ing soon, hopefully that will help with stopping getting the rash, but I think we may still have to poo issues. WCM, how old is your dd? Have the food reactions decreased as she gotten older?

    Thanks everyone for your help

Id say fungal as well, there quite common... if it is, its something that will just keep coming up

Ask your chemist for anti-fungal cream, start with something mild. DD spent a lot of time on Hydroxole which is quite strong...

My DD is now 5 (DS is 8)

Both my kids have food intolerences, and both can now eat more foods that were once trigger foods. Dd was always the most sensitive to more foods that DS.

DD was so sensitive that I couldn't breast feed her as by the time we'd worked out the problem, I couldn't eliminate my diet quick enough and fully enough to save breast feeding - so she was sensitive from birth - DS only had noticable problems once we started him on comp formula from about 8 months.

ETA - yes - go with the bicarb in the bath - it's a life saver
