    Default Broken Tooth

    Hi all

Just wanting to know if any of you have left a badly broken tooth to just, well, decompose..?

One of my back teeth has been slowly breaking down for the past couple of years and I'm just wondering if leaving it can cause any major health issues? I've had a few abcesses which I've cleared up with antibiotics but other than that it doesn't cause me any discomfort.

I've got a HUGE fear of the dentist, I can't even get in the chair without freaking out and it's something I really can't see myself getting around to doing unless its serious.

Danielle - it can cause a myriad of health problems including bad breath, loss of appetite, neck/spinal issue if you chew on one side only and even blood poisoning if left.

It can also trigger headaches, migraines and gastro problems.

Oh... that doesn't sound good does it.
I've actually been getting alot of headaches on the other side of my head than the broken tooth, do you think they could be related?

Maybe? Go to a dentist to talk about the tooth and a treatment plan - without actually sitting in the chair - there are many dentists that can 'ease' you into having the tooth fixed - maybe investigate hypnotherapy

Ok thanks for that, I never actually thought of getting eased into it, other times when I've been to the dentist its been wham bam thankyou ma'am, far too in-your-face (literally!) for my liking.

I'll see if I can find a slightly more empathetic dentist than the last one I saw..

OK so since starting this thread I've had the worst toothache and abcess and I'm OVER IT!

So I'm off to get the tooth out in an hour...

Wish me luck that I don't have a meltdown in the chair

    Thanks ladies

All good. Wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it'd be, the dentist was really nice and understood my nerves which really helped.

Was a straightforward extraction too, I thought given the state of the tooth it'd be tricky but we were both pleasantly surprised.

Good luck to you both too!
