Does anyone know the difference between Auslan baby signing and Makaton? My sister in law uses Makaton for he disabled daughter. I was wanting to teach my son some signs to open up his communication more as he sometimes gets frustrated. Should i buy the Makaton or borrow the auslan book from the library?

Makaton is key word signing and the biggie about it is that you speak when you use the signs as it's about furhtering communication.
Auslan is more for people that can't talk.

I have done a course in makaton as my ds is special needs and they now use this at his daycare with all the kids.

The BIGGEST thing is to make sure you talk when you sign!

I don't know anything about Makaton but Auslan do something called First Signs which is signing for hearing babies for the exact reason you want it, opening up communication. We did it with DS and found it extremely useful.
