Three times today (and counting I imagine) my 7 month old son has pulled hiumsel up to stand on the couch and then let go to free-fall backwards and thump his head on the floor.

I'm so very proud of him as this started on Thursday - and I missed the first time he stood, but I' very pleased my partner saw it, as I've naturally seen all his other 'firsts' being a SAHM.

While its impressive that a 7 month old can stand, I kind of wish he couldn't stand until he had some sense! But he's not letting up on this knew trick today. I've caught him about 3 times - and missed him 3 times... its gonna be a long day!

lol.. Congrats to the 'lil man!

My girl started at the same age but she is so cautious - she won't let go. she's just turned 1 and I can't wait for her to just let go and start walking, she'd been cruising for months.

It might be a boy thing. A friend of mine has boy twins and they just let go whenever. Every time I see them they have new bruises on their head. They are walking at 12 months.

You'd be amazed just how many bumps they can put up with. As long as he's not falling from height and there's nothing too sharp to hit he'll be fine. He might even learn not to let go! Or he'll start to think its funny!

It IS great when they start doing things but if they do them too early then they have no brains or sense of danger and that freaks you out, doesn't it??

I woke up on New Year's Day this year with my five month old daughter standing in her cot looking at me over the side. I almost fell out of bed. She started crawling two days after that and cruising pretty much at the same time. By the time she was nearly six months old she could go up the stairs at home by herself but she couldn't sit up yet!! It used to freak me out because she had no sense of danger and would charge up the stairs (we have two deep stairs that go from the lounge to the dining room and no way of gating them off so we just had to teach her how to do it properly) and she just wanted to go up them all the time. She learnt about a month ago how to go down them legs first not head first, so that's a relief! But she was 10 months old then so she was going up them on her own for nearly five months!!

So yeah, it's great when you have a baby who does things early but it means a whole lot of extra stress for you and a whole lot more spills for them until they grow a brain and a sense of caution!! hahaha.

You wait - now that your little man is doing this he'll want to do it ALL THE TIME. Time to baby proof the house!!

LOL! I remember that stage. What was worse was after the THUD, when there was a big pause while she caught her breath for a huge WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!

I always waited to see if the thud was her hitting the fllor, or just something falling over.

I agree, that second before the "waaa" is heart wrenching. The expression on his face - big wides eyes and mouth in pure shock as he draws in the breath - then his face screws up and goes red as he lets out the "waaaaaaa!".

He looks so much like a newborn baby though when he does his really pain cry, something in my heart kind of likes it, because he's been such a big tough boy lately, I kind of like him needing to be mummied - even if he goes over it in about 30 seconds and pushes me away to go on his next adventure.

If it wasn't for breast feeding, I dont think we'd have much cuddle time at all anymore

My ex and I had DD wearing a tiny bike helmet around the house at one point

We couldn't stand the thought of her bashing her head on the ground, or - worse - catching the corner of the coffee table on the way down. Luckily that stage was relatively short and she soon gained enough sense to sit down rather than falling down like a tree!
