3 yr old WHINGER...Ideas?

Hi all,

My 3 yr old just won't stop whinging....about anything and everything. We have a newborn bub, but his whinging started long before bub arrived or was even conceived. He just nags at me a lot of the time.
I've tried a lot of things to stop this really draining and annoying habit of his...no success as yet. DH and I like to think we spend a lot of quality time with him and he's a happy and healthy little boy...so what's with all the whinging???

Ideas/......?

Each time he whinges, remove him to a room or spot where he is alone. When he stops he can come out again, as soon as he starts again repeat it. If your persistant and completely remove him, along with all attention then he will stop within time.

I tell my 3.5yo DS that 'mummy can't understand you when you whinge, please speak properly'. That usually works but if not, I just don't answer him until he speaks properly.

i have a chronic whinger...now he's 4.5 we just tell him flat out to stop the whinge or he goes to the naughty corner.

he goes through ridiculous stages where he will out of nowhere start jumping up and down whinging "whats wrong?" "i want a drink" as if he has asked us already and we have said no or something! lol *shakes head*

the very mention of the naughty corner makes him stop. until the next time :|

My 4.5 year old DD can be like that. I tell her that unless she asks like a big girl she will be ignored (of course stuff like being hungry or being hurt I always respond to).

Oh wow, I am so glad I've finally found someone!!! My almost four year old does EXACTLY this, starts having hysterics over things he hasn't even asked yet

lol well it is comforting to know that its not just my ds..i hope its just a phase as well. he did start this once before, but we just cracked down on not letting him get away with it at all and he stopped...lately tho so close to having bubs and me being quite sick ive let it slide a few times...now its just getting out of hand again!

That's exactly the kind of thing little kids I think would really respond to, a little bit of fantasy that teaches them something in a way that is accessible and that they can really understand - often a lot more than a patient explanation by a reasonable parent! What a fantastic idea.

Welcome to "3". They whinge and whine more than any other creature.

Good advise, but I would never see my toddler for longer than 10 seconds if I did this. I tried it for days and it is not working for us.
