    Default UTI's and sex?

A friend (no it's really not me, I would have no troubles asking if it was me) gets an UTI every time after..yanno...just wondering if there is a connection..any helpful advice..she always goes to the loo after and washes. She's a bit older...I've suggested she stay on Cranberry caps for a while..any other advice, input?

If she goes to the loo straight after, like you said, i've got nothing else to offer.. My dr said to avoid UTI go to the toilet straight after sex.. Maybe if she has recurrent UTI's she should see her dr, ther could be an underlying cause.. HTH

I used to always get UTI's with one of my ex's - not sure if it was something about him but I don't have the same prob with DH. But I was getting them so frequently I asked the Dr if there was any alternative and he gave me an antibiotic that is the same as the one that you get if you get antibiotics for your UTI (perhaps a lighter dose not sure) but I was told to take them after sex (as well as going to the loo and washing) and it seemed to help. Might be worth a go but also get her partner treated for UTI too - men don't always get the burning or anything just the needing to pee all the time part- cause they may be passing it back and forward.

People who have regular UTIs need to pee both before and after sex, wear only cotton undies and even no undies to bed. Also you mentioned she 'older' is she menopausal or post menopausal?

As PP it may be something underlying so she should go see her GP who may even be able to give some good tips for both her and her DH on how to prevent them.

Thanks - yeah she is post menopausal (see there is sex after kids ) and I think she was taking an antibiotic as well. Trouble is one of the antibiotics she takes when she gets an UTI makes her really depressed and I know she came off it early (not wise) so maybe it isn't clearing up fully)

I will suggest she gets her man checked out, I fear he is the 'it wouldn't be me' mentality.

Bummer, hope they aren't incompatible, been married 20 years!!

being post menopausal will make her a tad more prone and not finishing ABs not a smart move. If she is feeling depressed on the ABs she should probably ask her GP for another kind and also find out why those ones are making her depressed ie if she's taking things for being postmenopausal are they mixing wrong type thing sometimes we tend to forget, I know I do, when going in that you even need to mention any natural supps you may be on as it may not mix well with other medications.

Also not having frequent sex can lead to an increase in UTIs, and of course why would you want more when it seems to be increasing the UTIs. LOL.

And oh not the dreaded wouldn't possibly be me hubby. Hope he's agreeable to also getting checked out and she's on the mend and over UTIs soon.
