I have a steel craft messina i LOVE it! It goes to all different levels and reclines.. I have been putting DS2 in there just to prop him up (refulx) since he was about 6 weeks old.

It also has a bar for between the legs so you dont need to strap them in constantly (has straps also)

I'm not bothering with a highchair until DS is on solids, but things I learnt ast time was to look for one where the tray comes off to clean, doesn't have fiddly edges to clean food out of, and has a relatively small footprint, as some of them have such wide legs for stability that in a small house you end up tripping over them all the time.

Do not waste your money on an expensive high chair!

I got a steelcraft one for $160 and it was difficult to clean, took up a lot of space and ultimately, you will want something that he can sit up at the table with you in.

We got an Ikea Antilop ($39). You can't find an easier high chair to clean, and you can buy a tray and an inflatable insert for when they need extra back support for an extra $10 each.

So much more practical and affordable.

I agree with not wasting money.

Though if you DO have to get one, I'd recommend one of the chair-top ones.

High and low: You can put it on the ground or on the chair.
Recline able if you get an expensive one but honestly if your bub needs to be reclined, I wouldn't be starting on solids just yet.

i wish i'd got an ikea one. i have got a steelcraft messina - and yes it is awesome, it does all the things you want however it is a PAIN to clean. food gets everywhere and there's levers and handles everywhere. and the leather cover has little holes in it that not even a hose could get the food out of (#$*&#($*&#@$(*&. your baby will get big within months and not want the reclining extras... you can feed him/her in the rocker meanwhile?

thanks guys, i like the steelcraft messina & the peg perego ones
im not starting DS on solids til about 6 months but will use it before then just for a seat & also because i always get things earlier than needed, just caused i get so excited
DS is a very tiny baby (almost 4 months & in 0000) so I need to get quite a padded comfy one with the bar in between the legs as well as the 5 point harness

I'd go with the type like u said the hight and recline adjust I have one with dd and love it, with ds I had a basic wood one like the euro ones good for the back ect. hated it.
Target have a sale on some this week $90 down from $180 I think, it's worth a look I got dd's for $80 reduced from $200 from target it's straps even come off to go in the wash which I love no more yuck straps.

I have a peg perego something or other for DD. I hate it, its awful to clean, its bulky and awkward. Nobody likes it, not even DD.

Could you possibly rent one or borrow from a friend to try it out before you hand over that much mone for it?
