Default Fetal Heart Rate at 5 Weeks & 4 Days

    Hi All,
Due to a history of miscarriage, I have been sent today for a vaginal ultrasound to confirm everything is going ok.
A fetal heart rate of 96bpm was recorded and relative bradycardia was noted.
Can anyone shed some light on this? The sonographer didnt seem to shed too much information but the doctors office has called and asked me to rest up over the weekend as the heart rate was low.
Can anyone shed any light on this? I am really nervous and a bit down - i thought everything was going to go ok this time. Looking forward to hearing from you all

I think that it is a great sign that a heartbeat was even detected at that gestation and I would expect it to be quite low at that point as the heart has only just started to beat. It should increase over the next few weeks. Are you going to get another scan soon? Pregnancy (after miscarriage) nerves are cruel aren't they.

    Hi maybe4!
Thnak you so much for responding. I have been googling non stop and sometimes that is just worse. You can get such conflicting information it can make it hard.
I have another scan booked in for Wednesday week but the wait is just killing me. I also have another blood test booked in for Monday.
I also have a genetic blood condition called Factor V Leiden which requires me to inject myself daily with Clexane - this was found after my last 2 miscarriages.
thanks again maybe 4! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. Ill make sure to update this thread with any new information

I don't have much solid information, but I know when I had problems (only mild) throughout my first pregnancy I had to have alot of heart-rate monitoring (I forget what it's called!)
The range was anywhere between 80 (very low) and 160, it would jump up and down throughout the whole half hour. And that was ALL the time (I had it done weekly for the last 2 months).
So I think due to you being so early, and like previously said, the heart as only just started beating, I think it's fine. It could have just been low at that moment but it could be higher right now!

Search engines are a little scary at times and because the majority of us regular folk don't have access to medical sites it's hard to get accurate information.
I found this site which makes things sound like you are moving along well http://www.i-am-pregnant.com/encyclo...al-Heart-Rate/

I hope this is the one and your bubba is sticky this time. The first 18 weeks after m/c are horrible on a normal pregnancy because you feel like at any moment everything could end. I've only just been able to accept that this pregnancy is sticky at 23 weeks because I can feel her moving around heaps.
I hope you can stay positive and that this is your new baby

Thanks ladies! im trying not to let it consume me so Im trying to keep myself semi occupied. Im hoping if my HCG level rise appropriatley on Monday then everything is ok. Im lucky that I had my son 2 1/2 years ago - first pregnancy - no problems - and I certainly took it for granted!
My doctors office said that she woudl like it to be around 120bpm, but after reading the websites, i think that that may be a little ahead of where im at - fingers crossed anyways! Isnt it times like this I wish I had an Ob as a best friend so I could bounce my questions off them everytime I think of a new one! this can be torture!
    Thanks again Ladies!

    Hi robenkel

I thought I would just add my little bit in. When i had my dating scan at 6weeks 4 days the heart beat was 128bpm which is good and the radiographer said the heartbeat starts at 90 beats a min and increases its rate every few days. It is likely that at 5 weeks 4 days the heart has only just started to beat, so 96bmin would be ok. Yah for a heartbeat!!!

Just thought I would add my bit! I was going to reply earlier but decided to wait.

I had an ultrasound 11 days ago and bub was measuring at 6 weeks 1 day with a heartrate of 101bpm. They told me it was slow and I had to have a follow up ultrasound which I had this morning. Bub is now meausring 7 weeks 5 days with a heartrate of 166bpm! The guy doing my ultrasound today basically said that anything over 80bpm is a good sign at 6 weeks so I think your heartrate is perfect. But having just been through it myself, I understand the stress of waiting for that next ultasound. Take it easy!

Thank you so so much ladies! its so reassuring when someone has been through the same thing. Im sure the words "Its a little slower than what we like" must mean nothing to them but it can mean a world of things to us!
Im starting not to worry as much as the morning sickness is getting worse and worse every day!
My HCG levels checked on Thursday were 15,000 odd and today at exactly 6 weeks they were 34,000 odd - so everything else seems to be moving along.
Ill post next wednesday when I have my next ultrasounds to let you know - I also think its helpful down the track when someone else has the same question, it brings up this thread but noone has left an outcome!
Thanks so much ladies for taking the time to respond. It really does mean the world to me!

I'm glad you're worries are starting to decrease. Those HcG levels sound fantastic. Can't wait to hear the good news after your scan next Wednesday.
