    Default Before TTC #2

Did you have a test to check your immunity again for rubella, chicken pox etc before TTC #2?

My immunity was fine before we had my son and I asked the doctor if we needed to do anything before trying again and he said no but I dont know if I should ask to check my immunity again as I work in child care.

Has anyone be tested twice and lost their immunity before the second test?

    Thanks in advance
    Sandy

    I did.

I had my immunity tested prior to TTC last time (just over 6 years ago) and all was fine - which I had expected as I had had Rubella as a child as well as having the injection at age 9 and again at age 16.

I had it tested again about a year ago (as we planned to start TTC a few months later) and my rubella came back "borderline". So I had yet another shot of rubella (well, the MMR) and started TTC 3 months later.

Fell pregnant that first month, had my bloods tested at about 6 weeks and once again I was "borderline" for rubella!! Have no idea how or why it's not "stuck" but it hasn't.

    Hello Sandy81-

I would recommend you to get checked again as levels of immunity decrease at different rates for each individual.

I was tested before considering to TTC#2 (pre conception pathology test) for Rubella (MMR), chicken pox, FBC (full blood count) and all Heps etc- I feel better knowing all is well now than finding out later when I am pregnant- especially if some thing could have been prevented.

When I was pregnant with twins I was tested at a mid level for Rebulla (not low but not high either) after they where born I saw my GP and I purchased a booster shot for MMR .

I was tested again for my Rubella levels just recently and after 6 years, I do not have high immunity but not low enough needing another booster before TTC #2.

Hope this helps- All the best

    Thanks girls

I think that I might go and get tested. Better to be safe.

So I had yet another shot of rubella (well, the MMR) and started TTC 3 months later.
Did you have to wait 3 months because of the vaccine? We want to start trying in a month so I was hoping we ouldnt have to wait 3 months if I need a booster.

Check with your doctor, if you need the booster that is. When I had my booster done (just under a year ago), the doctor said that they had recently changed the guidelines on that booster to just 1month BUT she would always err on the side of caution and recommended I waited 3 months.
