    Default Boobs and Bras

    Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering when you found you needed maternity bras? I'm still wearing my old bras - have outgrown a couple, but my favs are my t-shirt bras and they still fit me just fine, but am wondering when I will need/should get maternity bras?

We live in the country so would need to go to "the big smoke" to get anything other than Target bras....and my local Target doesn't even have maternity stuff!!!!!

I've heard you can go up a cup size or 2 after birth when your milk comes in, so how do I know what to get? All very confusing!

Any help or info would be appreciated!

I think I was about 24 weeks with DS when I bought my first maternity bra.

My pregnancy book says that you should be fitted for a maternity bra between 30-35 weeks. I think this time I might go into Myer and get measured up.

Do you have a lingerie shop near you? Maybe they could measure you up and that way you'll know what to buy.

That's something I hadn't though of Tasma. There isn't one here in Margs, but Busselton would probably have one. They are a bigger centre and have more shops in general!

Thanks! I'll have to remember that and then I can get some there if they have maternity and aren't a rip-off, off the net or get the MIL to get me some in Perth if I know exactly what I want!

its more convenience or being about to get your boobs out comfortably to breast feed. I have some stay at home days where i just were a normal tshirt bra and lift it up .... but it is alot easier with maternity bras.

But it wasnt untill bub was born that i wore one ... normal bras were just fine before she was born.

I went with the Bonds Bump range - absolutely awesome and even though I had gigantic knockers before, during and after they seemed to fit me fine. Still wearing maternity bras from my first pregnancy even though DD is ten months and now that I'm pregnant again I don't think I'll bother switching back

Mostly I wear the Bonds Bump singlets with the inbuilt bra - they're awesome and very comfortable to sleep in too. You'll find that you can't let your boobs flop around at night and will need to wear some kind of support.

The only thing is, they don't have a lot of `lift'. They're lovely and soft but not overly sturdy iykwim.

Once bubs was born I found I did need a maternity bra. Before that I was fine in my ordinary ones, although I think I went shopping for bras about 6 weeks preggers and my boobs had already grown a little by then.

I have a whole heap of contraptions in my wardrobe that I can fit my whole head into, bigger bras were the very first thing I had to get.I call them contraptions because none of them were comfortable or gave much support, in the end I settled on a normal bra in a HUGE size hehehehe...can't believe how big they were, and then the milk came in...sweet baby jesus...back to normal now thank god

I think that you are supposed to stop wearing underwires by about 26 weeks as they can cause blocked milk ducts and lead to mastitis.

Also, I found my breasts were huge for a couple of days as my milk first came in but soon settled back down to their regular size so I didn't need to go up a cup size.

I second the advice about bonds bumps singlets, there are also some other brands that do them. They are very comfy and great for BF in public as they keep your tummy covered even if you have to lift up your top.

ive found my boobs have gotten quite full already and are extremely sore. when I went looking for some new bra's the 'maternity' ones with the clips turned me off a bit as i'm so early on, but I managed to find a bra like a crop top but with more shape and a bit more support but not a sports bra either. soft, stretchy material that i can pull on over my head and will stretch as my boobs grow - I got these in Kmart. So maybe you might be able to find something in Kmart not quite maternity but to get you through for a little while
