Default Safe to go to the Dentist?

Firstly sorry If I am posting this is the wrong section, I wasn't sure on this one!

Just wandered if it is safe to go to the dentist early on in pregnancy or is it best to wait? I am 6.5 weeks and next week have an appointment that had been booked ages ago to have my teeth cleaned etc - just a routine hygiene appointment.

I wasn't sure if it's safe or not????

    Thanks

I went to the dentist several times in my pregnancy .. and it is quite safe..

** just make sure the dentist knows that you are pregnant

** no permenant fillings.. but temporary ones are ok .. (my dentist refused to use the chemicals in the permenant ones while I was pregnant)

and ** I would definately avoid any kind of xray .. they are perfectly safe in late pregnancy (I had one) - but really dodgy in early pregnancy

we all hate the dentist.. but I am afraid that being pregnant isn't a good enough reason to not go .

    good luck

If it's just to clean your teeth, I think it should be OK. For anything else (like x-rays) I would be sure to tell the dentist first, just to be safe.

it is fine to go to the dentist while you are pregnant. your midwife will actually recommend that you see one as bubba's can take their toll on mums teeth and gums. just let your dentist know that you are pregnant as there are certain anesthtics (sp?) that are not great for pregnant women. but it is ok to see the dentist to have your teeth cleaned. it is even ok to have a dental xray as the amount of radiation is considerably less than one for an arm or leg and the xray beam is focused on you mouth and with a lead apron on won't affect your baby. however unless you are in pain it isn't urgent to have an xray. it could wait until after the baby's born.

if you have any q's feel free to ask as i am a dental assiatant and worked up until my 7 month. i also underwent dental treatment while pregnant. (i had 2 fillings and a clean)

xrays are also fine when pregnant... just make sure they know your pregnant. i had them done early on in the pregnancy and they said it isnt a strong xray so i would be fine.

    I hope so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went on Wednesday and had a filling done, I am sure it is a permanent one. I hope this is OK?? The dentist told me it was fine and that the anisthetic (sp?) was fine too.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance - I just wasn't sure and trying to be so careful about everything at the moment!
