Gosh! I haven't seen any of those brands here! All I've seen is Kingland, Tofutti and that one with the fish oil and casein in it (I've forgotten the name).

Guess the 'Berra is more behind the times than I realised!

    Almost a week without dairy!

I had a bit of a moment in the petrol station after work today. I spent five minutes looking at the chocolate bars. I would pick one up, then put it down, then pick it up, then back down, then resisted! The attendant must have thought I was nuts.

I've avoided eating out a couple of times this week while I'm resettling in. Eating out is always the hardest bit of veganism for me.

Does anybody know of any (flavoursome) butter alternatives? I've been using Nuttelex for years, but it's a bit dull.

    Well done!

I don't have trouble eating out if I am in my area, plenty of vegan choices here. Canberra was difficult last time I went.

DD's school had a party today and if I hadn't brought along my vegan muffins, I would have not been able to eat a thing.

I don't use margarine as they all have palm oil in them and I do miss it Nothing like hot toast with margarine. i make my own for baking but it is not fit for toast.

    Hi MsMummy
(sorry in advance for butting in on your thread, I was brought up vegan but not now, so I'm an imposter)

Have you thought about using cocoabutter?
It's expensive for that stuff, although I'm sure you could find smaller quantities and not in the 'powder' form, although it melts at 35c so its kinda like a margerine subsitute and excellent for toast and baking, it only very has a very faint chocolate aroma, I bought it to try out and have been having it on toast as well as making cupcakes.

And on the bonsoy, I will check my email but I found some bulk for cheap, 20 for a 6 x 1 ltr case so still expensive but not by much reallyas I only really have it in my morning coffee and porridge and baking it's not so bad, I coud cope using another soy for anything but my coffee.
    Still ttc

Would love to know where you found that Zel. It is the only one I will have in my coffee too.

Stupid melbournites with your stupid array of vegan choices! Spare a thought for those of us in Brisbane! If the weather wasn't so inclement in Melbourne, I'd move for the food.

I looked at the Nuttelex container before. So, when it says "vegetable oil", that generally means it is or includes palm oil?

Does it taste like a cross between chocolate and butter?

I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip.

Any food that says vegetable oil and have a relatively high saturated fat rate is palm oil. Nuttlex have confirmed that they do use palm oil in the margarine and I am yet to find a margarine that doesn't (although I haven't emailed all of the companies).

Hi guys, we've become a bit quiet!

You know what I wish? I wish there were more choices or to be more truthful, any choices when going to places like the movies. It gets a little tiring having to sneak in a bag of movie snacks

Popcorn can be air popped. OK, it's supporting the Capitalists, but my popping machine has been going for about 6 years now! You can then season it with various wonderful concotions!

Having said that, I have weighed up the eco pros and cons of being Vegan, and I have decided that we (as a family) need to concentrate more on where our food comes from and how it is produced, as lots of Vegan alternatives use palm oil, which makes the alternative of being vegetarian more appealing to us.
