Unhappy Should I Change My baby's Milk

    Hi there,

I dont know if i should change my baby's Milk or not.

She has been spitting up her milk more then normal enough for me to get wet and her to have to have a change of clothes..

I went to the Doctors about it on Monday and he sent me to the hospital to get some tests done on her. But they couldn't come up with why she is doing it and then sent me and hubby home.

So me and my partner have been thinking maybe it is the milk she is on.. She is on S26 Gold Alfapro.

When she was a new born we had to change her to S26 Gold Alfapro as she couldnt handle any of the other milks.

She was taking it all well until about week ago...

Has anyone been through this before??

Please i need some help with this as im starting to worry...

And she isnt put much wight on anymore. She is ment to be 6Kg at her age but only 5.5Kg

    Thank you all

Hmm it's hard to say really,

Because she is so little it could be the milk or reflux or a tummy bug or anything really.

The risk with changing formula is it can make them constipated.

What do you feel it causing the problem?

Does she vomit within 30 minutes of a feed and is she unhappy after a feed, those are often indicators of reflux.

My advice is to see if keeping her upright after a feed helps and keep asking the Dr for help until you get some answers.

sorry i don't really have any suggestions on formulas, but wanted to add have you tried breastfeeding? sorry if you tried this in the beginning and it didn't work and that's why you switched to formula...i obviously don't know any background info if you haven't tried breastmilk, would you consider giving it a go?

how old is she? while i understand you are worried about your daughter, it is really important to not get too stressed about 'normal' weight for her age. every baby is different, and even if she is in something like the 5th percentile it is STILL NORMAL. also, just wanted to make sure cos some doctors get them mixed up, are you looking at breastfed or formula fed stats? sorry i am not at all trying to sound patronising sorry if i am!! just trying to help.

If the formula is too heavy they sometimes become chucky) try another wyeth formula like nan HA or karicare HA (ha means they are half digested and softer on tums) or you can get eigther of these in a reflux thickened type

It could simply be that she's got eyes bigger than her belly (so to speak) and is being a guts, and then bringing up the excess. Or she's swallowing air during feeds, or even in between feeds if she gulps air when she cries, and this air is bringing up the milk. Have you checked that you are using the right teat for the bottle? Hers might be too fast.

Don't go stressing about reflux and special formula until you've ruled out the simple stuff.

I wouldn't focus on her actual weight as much as the shape of her curve on the charts (not where the curve is in relation to the "norm"). If the curve is still showing a steady climb rather than leveling out or dropping off then she's probably an OK weight for her.

My DD was a "happy chucker". A great term for a big mess......... DS had bad reflux - so at least you are not living with that!

I found that infant gaviscon in her bottles helped control it a lot - and I brought a lot of cute bibs............. easier than a total change!
