Default High white cell count- why?

Hi I would like to hear from any hubbers that have had a high white cell count and if so what was the reason and symptoms and outcome?

    Any feedback would be great.

Usually an infection. I get it when I have a UTI (which is quite frequent).

You will probably have to undergo further testing if antibiotics don't do the trick.

Well for me it wasnt too great ... but I am a pretty rare case.

Usually it just means that your body is fighting off an infection. You might or might not have symptoms (cold/flu etc) as sometimes your body is pretty effective at fighting off things without you really knowing it.

Usually they will order a repeat test in 2 weeks .... and probly a few other tests too to confirm/rule things out and just have a general check.

Hope it is all ok with you.

A high white cell count (in the blood) can have a few different causes. It all depends upon which particular white cells are elevated ( there are several types), and also the stage of developement that the cell type which is most elevated is at. It is also looked at in context with what the other cells in the blood (red cells and platelets) are doing. And all of this is looked at in conjunction with the individuals symptoms.
The majority of the time, it means an infection or inflammation of some kind. Sometimes they can also tell if its likely to be viral or bacterial infection, from the pattern of numbers as well.

There are so many variables and quite a few possible causes, some quite innocent and some serious. You really need to discuss the result with your doctor who can evaluate the overall picture, otherwise you can end up quite worried for little reason.

A high white cell count in urine is most likely a UTI, though if there are also lots of epitheleal cells (skin cells) then the high count could be the result of self contamination of the specimen.

there are alot of reasons why, mostly because of a infection somewhere in your body, it could even just be a ear infection causing it, or a uti, even a infected toe nail can effect your WBC

Did your GP say anything to you when you got the results? how high they were? which cells they were? you may have just the beginning of something and not getting any symptoms yet just the blood test picking it up,

its nothing, and your levels go back down asap, if you do feel unwell or uneasy, go back and see your GP though, infections are harder to fight when preg,

just searched my posts and found in my third trimester i had itchy skin and my White cell count, neutrophils and Monocytes were all high .. they never did figure out why... but apparently i think it can just be something that occurs with no infection. goes after birth.

With dd I had PROM and as I my white cell count went very high over 12hrs I was induced at 33weeks this was due to the PROM as well as the high white cell count just so I dont scare you.
I'm sure you will b fine when we get a infection our white cell count rises I think I heard somewhere it was the bodies way of trying to fight the infection.
