Default Newborn with dry and sensitive skin...product suggestions?

Our nearly 10 week old DD has had a rash for the last week. We took her to the Dr today who said that she has dry and sensitive skin and said that he has his that it isn't excema. He suggested that we moisturise her 2 to 3 times a day with plain sorbolen cream. The sorbolene that we bought is really think and hard to apply.

I've heard people say that the QV range is good and while researching I found that there is a QV Kids range. Has anybody used this? Is it appropriate to use on newborns? Are there any other products that people can recommend for dry/sensitve skin?

QV range is safe, the flare up oil is really good for bathing and you pat bub dry and the oil stays on the skin.

You could try a handful of breakfast oats in a stocking, put it in the bath and let bub soak. It helps with dry skin and if you gently pat (not rub) skin dry after the bath it leaves a protective layer on the skin.

I find sorbelene to 'thick' and it makes me itchy.

You can buy oat bath things but they are the same 'commercialised' version as breakfast oats, and cost way more.

Make sure you use a sensitive type washing powder as washing powders can cause major flare ups. My son was/is pretty bad and i found double rinsing his clothes works well.

I didnt actually find QV so great with DS despite finding it great for myself and seeing it work wonders on others... we did a trial and error test at the chemist and the one we liked best involves oatmeal but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me In regards to moisture we use akins. Both DS and I use it and TBH I find it one of the better friendly products around

O.K, first of all, I wouldn't recommend bathing daily with any type of wash as this can dry and irritate the skin. It's O.K if you are only using water though. Little babies don't get dirty enough to require daily bathing. Infact, daily bathing is not recommended.
Something I found to be great for the skin (if you do bathe bubs daily) is a few drops of almond or olive oil in the bath. It's very nice on dry skin.
I use Gaia products on DD. They are organic, Aussie made and owned, not expensive and not tested on animals. They have a great range and you can buy the products at Coles, Woolies, most health food stores and also online. This is the link-http://www.gaiaskinnaturals.com/.
This product range was born from a mother not being able to find suitable products for her son that suffered from Eczema.
I used the baby moisturiser on DD from birth as she had dry skin and it was lovely. It also has lavender in it which is very settling for bubs.
I also use the skin soothing lotion on her bum as a barrier cream BUT you can use this as a skin moisturiser if you find that the moisturiser is not enough for bubs.
I cannot recommend these products highly enough!!
I really feel that Cetaphil etc aren't the answer as they contain so many chemicals although I know it has worked for some.
Good luck. I hope you find something that works for bubs.

Gaia Moisturiser is great. But plain old olive oil is fantastic as well!

All Gaia products are natural, smell great and work wonderfully, but can be on the expensive side. Nothing beats the old remedies and olive oil is brilliant also.

vegesorb is a fantastic product. if it's bit thick wet your hand before putting a small amount in your palm. it glides on easily then.

    Hey,
My DD has had dry patches on her skin since birth and I was putting moisturiser on after her bath (only bathing every 2 days in plain water) but it wasn't doing too much. The last 3 baths she has had with oats and already her skin in so much better. If you have some already in the house I would suggest trying them before going out and buying expensive lotions and potions.
Hope something works for you both!
    Cheers, shaz :-)
