Default insomnia - i can't get no sleep

Ahhh this is so frustrating. For a couple of weeks now i have had trouble sleeping.
I feel exhausted but as soon as i go to bed i just can't fall asleep - i toss and turn for hours and hours and i find myself suddenly feeling wide awake in the middle of the night.
I have tried getting up and going back to bed later with no success.

    Any suggestions.....

when you figure it out, let me know

    i've always been like this
i don't usually fall asleep before about 3am, regardless of how early i go to bed.

and when i finally resorted to buying some herbal supllements from coles to try and do something about it, they disappeared before i could use them

so now i just stay up till late. and hope i'll fall asleep once i do go to bed

Could be because your not letting your brain switch off...too much to think about maybe? or things you want to do the next day?

I have always had trouble switching my brain off but my life is probably the least stressful it has ever been so....i don't know what is keeping me up

I seem to get bursts of energy in the middle of the night but i feel tired all day. Hopefully this is just a passing phase.

DONT use valerian, whicjh is what is in most herbal sleep supplements. i can play meery hell with you in all sorts of ways.

Have you tried taking a hot bath, reading a book and drinking a large warm glass of milk? These should help your mind switch off.

I too have trouble switching off, the more stressed I am the worse it is.

Even when I'm not worrying about something it always takes AT least two hours to fall asleep. My doctor has put me on a tablet called Endep. They are an anti-depressant in high doses but in low doses help you shut down easier and help to block pain (which is the cause of my chronic insomnia at the moment from an injury) He put me on these so I don't get addicted to sleeping tablets like Valium.

Might be worth talking to your doctor about something just to hlep your brain switch off.

After roughly 3 months of constant insomnia and not getting to sleep before 6am (usually when I passed out) and waking up at 7-8am I got to the point of exhaution, I got to a point where I slept for about 2 days straight to catch up and ended up getting my sleeping routine back.

I can empathise..insomnia can be hell.

I can easily pull all nighters if i have a good book. or even a semi-good book. or just a book i am enjoying slightly...or that i want to get to the end of so that i never have to lay eyes on it again...

so thats really unsafe advice for me (no offence. i've been reading before bed my whole life. it usually makes my ability to sleep even worse...LOLOLOL)
