    Default Spreadable cheese

Does anyone know if it's safe to eat cheese spread (ie Kraft - the one in a jar) whilst pregnant?

I know soft cheeses are out because of the pasturisation thing, but not sure about the spread. Or perhaps it's no good because it's processed?

The risk in cheeses is listeria etc. Pasteurisation kills this and other bacteria. Your hard cheeses are ok, but in so far as Brie, Camembert etc are concerned, my OB said that I could have them if I trusted where they came from. The general advice is to steer clear. I still eat the cheese triangles though. Processed but yummy.

If the cheese is pasteurised then you have no problems. Its like mayo is out cos of the raw egg content, supermarket jars are OK. Kraft in a jar should be OK.

Processed foods are not a risk in themselves but because of the obviously high levels of fat, salt and sugars in them should be eaten in moderation.

Considering that they process the stuff to within an inch of its life, I'd say the chances of any greeblies living in there is minimal. In fact, there's probably less risk than with hard cheeses.
